It wasn't overly loud, and the motor sounds smooth. It doesn't have variable speed, but it doesn't need it.I got it to cut down 2 spring mattresses and old-timey box springs. It did the job, and I have no doubt that it can cut through any metal that I need to, as long as I don't try to force it with too much pressure and let the wheel do its job (but that can be said of any power tool. The thing I like about this tool compared to others in the same class and price range, is that it's heavier than many, and that bespeaks of quality metal parts.For the cost and value, this 6 amp grinder is the one to get! Just make sure you get some extra cutting wheels. I had to learn that once the wheels get too short, the vibration level goes up exponentially. Only con is the on/off switch is wonky until you figure it out. I can’t believe it cut they some of the walls I’ve opened up.
