• “Excellent Quality and Comfort
“Absolutely great boots. Very comfortable, durable, and well made. The leather feels high quality and the sole has excellent traction. I use them for work and everyday wear, and they hold up perfectly. True to size and worth every dollar. Highly recommend these Caterpillar boots.”

Great boots!
I just received these boots and will be using them for work in my yard. They fit and feel great and quality of the leather is excellent for the price.

These boots will NOT work with orthotic inserts - other than that, a good boot overall.
I would rate this 1 star based on my personal experience with these boots because I cannot use my prescription orthotics, but I realize that if you don't require arch supports like me that these boots are otherwise good. These boots will not accommodate arch support inserts at all. First, there is no insert that you can simply remove to make room for your own insert. You will have to laboriously cut out the padding that is completely built in to the bottom of the boot. This gets very tricky near the toe. Second, once you remove all the material, any substantial insert (such as my prescription orthotics) simply will not fit. The added height will push the top of your foot up toward the base of the tongue. There is a substantial and incredibly uncomfortable seam where the tongue is sewn into the leather. This will dig into the top of your foot. I strongly advise against purchasing these if you intend to use any sort of insert. Aside from the orthotic insert issue, here are my observations on the boots: I bought a previous iteration of these boots about 6 years ago. I wore them everyday working as an electrician for 2 years and then on and off for the next few years. They held up incredibly well and were very comfortable to work in summer through winter (I live in Wisconsin). These boots have the same basic design and materials, so I think it is safe to assume that they will last just as long. As far as comfort goes - these are heavy duty boots, designed to be rugged, not comfortable. They are comfortable relative to other boots. Additional padding would make the feet sweat. They feel a bit rough until they are broken in and shaped to your feet. I have wide feet and the wide width model of these boots fits me better than any other boot I tried on at a local Farm and Fleet. My only real complaint is that there is a bulky seem at the base of the tongue.

tough for value. functional.
I bought this boot on sale 21 mos ago and retired them today. It outperformed previous Carolina pair that cost twice as much. They lasted 13 to 16 mos of daily farming and construction (0 to 90 deg. F., wet, dry, manure and urine, chemicals etc.) 4 weeks of occasional foundry work did more damage to the boot than the rest combined, most notably to the leather. the extra months beyond were my cheapness more than their greatness. hay season finally broke the uppers and they filled with Clay and cement this last week of foundation work. I give it 5* because the joints between materials outlasted the materials themselves; as much as i could ask from any boot. traction excellent, held up to a 9 / 12 metal roof job. distance walking comfort good as entry level boots go, but I'm mostly on gravel dirt grass mud wood not concrete and asphalt. cons (nitpicking mostly): largest concern: inners broke at heel in half a year (photo 3 is final state) I think from wearing them laced low and loose occasionally. my new boots have a leather patch here and it's probably worth the extra cost. it was kind of silly going for a year with torn inners when the rest of the boot is fine. second largest: branding: I'm suspicious of anybody who writes their name on something 5 times. i pay for a boot, pay me if you want a billboard. even above the cuff i almost painted it all out. otherwise I appreciated the traditional styling. speed lace fixtures are thin and after caught + bent once it keeps happening. i had to plier repair them a handful of times. the welting strip cracked at bend points on both shoes early, but that seam is still strong, so only a minor point. laces had to be replaced with Kevlar. Stock ones are functional but not great. disintegrated by 1 year. to sum up: the critical things (out-sole, upper, and their connection) weren't cheapened but money was saved where it could be. On sale it was definitely the best value (bang for buck) multipurpose work shoe I've owned. I didn't purchase again but that was my own curiosity more than anything.

Should have gone bigger, or better yet, with a better quality boot.
I've had CAT boots for decades (off and on). I was looking forward to this pair and bought them in my usual size (13). When I tried them on, I thought they were somewhat tight, but would stretch. I have spent the last three months trying to stretch them out. I've worn them for hours with larger socks, walked them dry two different times. While walking them dry has helped, they are still too tight in the toe box. Turns out that a 13 is too small. A 13 wide probably would have been better to a 14. I wish I could have tried on a 13 wide or 14 before settling on this pair. Unfortunately, because boots have to be broken in and this is mail order business, there really is no way to find out if they are the right size until you can't return them. My advice is to be sure the boots fits well right out of the box, with only minimal pinching. There will be some give, but not a whole lot and after a lot of time, effort, and discomfort. I also ran into trouble with the boot tongues. The left boot tongue would not stop slipping to the side. I eventually ended up drilling two holes in the boot, between the lace hooks, and sewing a sturdy thread to the side of the boot from the tongue. Give me a break. And the insoles are crap. I replaced them immediately with a $10 pair and the fit was much, much better. Negatives aside, the boots are very handsome; although some of the color has faded due to me walking the boots dry. I think I am going to bite the bullet and get a pair of Drew's Rowdy workboot. They're about $400, but the fit and comfort is guaranteed, and they are some handsome looking boots. I also have have them repaired for decades afterwards.
