Very smart to have if you use a RO unit.
Excellent idea, you never know when your Reverse osmosis will spring a leak, Nothing is perfect if I get a leak from my RO unit this will probably save me from water damage. I had a RO unit many years ago that leaked and caused cabinet damage, this would have been great to have. The only negative I have is it does not come with replacement adsorbent tablets. If leak detector stops a leak it needs to be reset and new tablet installed.

Could Be Worth The Investment, But...
This item is a continuation of what I've seen on most reverse osmosis systems sold for home use. Which is they are built from cheap plastic parts. Plus, the push type of connectors and the associated plastic hoses, are notoriously known for leaking. This item has a wadded up piece of tissue paper, and when whetted, it will push up a small metal stem to shut off the water supply. But what if a leak is developed on the supply side of this leak detector? Then you still have a bad situation. Yes, this leak detector could save you a from a big headache and a large repair bill. However, the next time I will buy a whole house leak detector shut off valve, which I've seen starting at around 100 dollars. In addition, I could not find replacement tissues for sale specific for this item. I've seen a similar tissue plugs for sale on amazon, but I'm not sure if they are a suitable replacement. As a result, it seems that this item is sold as one time use and is considered non-repairable. I don't know, because there were no instructions included. I know that it has a simple function, but at least the manufacturer could've mentioned whether or not the tissues are replaceable. Tissues are very susceptible to moisture, so it is very easy to get these wet, since they are usually located under the kitchen sink.

There were no instructions, which for a novice might be a problem. It's obvious the unit needs to go as close to the supply line origination as possible. The bigger problem is the product description makes it seem like you get two extra "tablets" but that's not the case as another reviewer has noted. This may be a one time use product. I bought electronic leak detectors to go under the cabinet as well and I would also recommend having a pan built for the RO unit to sit in as well. Any plumber should be able getting a pan made.

Works great but not in humid environments
This is a great feature to add to your RO system. If a leak happens, the compressed material inside the ALS1 expands closing the supply line to the RO system. It is a fail safe for either poor installation or a defect. However, in Florida where it is very humid, this material absorbed the moisture in the air and expanded after ~ 2 weeks from installation.

Excellent customer service! Thank you, Nick!
My ALS1 got slightly wet when I was replacing the filters. I called Nick at iSpring and he got everything back up and running for me!

I'm sure this will work just fine, it's just not what is being advertised. This almost seems like a Bait and Switch... which is illegal.

The valve sent is not at all as pictured. Seems to be a less expensive model.
