The Opinion of a Chewable Ice Connoisseur
My husband was tired of travelling to the store every two or three days to buy me ice. Not just any ice at any store, it had to be a certain ice. Bless him, I have the best husband. I drink lots of ice water and love to chew on the ice. Our new home came with a fancy fridge with a built in ice maker/crusher that we don't use. The ice is too hard, and when you use the crushing option, it provides you with smaller chunks of razor like ice shards. Needless to say we don't even have it hooked up anymore. The ice I prefer is round with a hole in the center. I'm not sure how or why, but it produces a softer less deadly, chewable ice. I'm not a huge fan of the snow cone type ice as it melts too fast and even from the start there is really nothing to chew. So my husband figured he spends close to $400 a year on ice. This does not include transportation to and from the store. I found this ice maker online and he said "GET IT!!" I purchased it and told him not to get his hopes up because if I didn't like the ice it produces, it's going back. Well that isn't the case. I LOVE the ice, it's smaller and even softer than the ice we had been purchasing from the store. It also has the hole in the center of the cube, which makes me wonder if that is the key to soft chewable ice. The unit is fairly quiet. In fact it's much quieter that the refrigerator ice maker. I think it's because it has less of an ice drop to create that earth shattering noise. It works really fast. I've only made the large cubes, which are still fairly small, and it will produce them in about 10 minutes. It drops enough to fill a small glass, but in 10 more minutes you have more. We hooked it up, left the house for 2 hours and came home to a full bin of ice. I emptied into a large 2 gallon ziploc freezer bag. It took about 4 full bins to fill that bag up. When the ice enters the ziploc it's a little wet, so it tends to refreeze in the freezer and make a solid chunk. This chunk easily separates with one hard drop of the bag onto the counter, so this is not an issue at all. The 2 gallon bag takes up a lot less space in the freezer than the 20lb bag we had previously been buying. I primarily take from the counter top unit when I fill my glass and save my ziploc as a backup. The rest of the family uses a lot of ice and the unit does well to meet our demand. My only complaints (and they are by no means deal breakers) are that the counter unit is much larger than I was expecting. I wish it took up less space on the counter AND for being so large, the bin that holds the ice is rather small and fills up quickly. That's all.. Otherwise, I love it. So happy to have found it.

Only Makes One Size Cube - Still A Nice Ice Maker
The product description and some photos in the listing are not accurate, this does not make 3 sizes. It only makes one size cube. That said, this is a nice unit. Set up is easy. Pour in water to the fill line, put in the basket and press the start button. It makes ice until the basket is full. When you un-box, take off all the shipping tape holding the inside basket and the ice ejector flap. There is a hidden piece of tape holding the ice ejector flap in place for shipping - it needs to be removed. The ice basket was totally full after about 75 minutes. One basket of ice fills a 1 quart Chinese restaurant soup container to put ice in the freezer for storage. It is fairly compact - 11 inches high, 10 inches deep and 9 inches wide. The machine is pretty quiet, there is a low intermittent fan sound when it is running. The instructions say to have some free space around the unit for air intake and discharge. I am impressed with it.

Efficient but sensors are pretty bad
I did get this to get some ice, because our freezer ice maker broke. The bill to fix the ice maker was 300, so I did get this ice machine and saved 200 in the process. It works great; it is fast and make ice reliably; although after a week, the water sensor went off. Fundamentally, when the botton area that contains the water, reach a certain level, the water sensor goes off and the machine stop, so you won't burn the pump. This machine has a design flaw from what I can tell, which cause the water sensor to fail; so even if there is no water or the water is low; the pump goes on, and if you are not careful, it will burn. The outcome of this is poorly made cubes; due to the fact that there is not enough water to fill the basket. I did contact the manufacturer to get an idea about a repair or replacement, since I have no time to verify if there is enough water, and for the first week, the low water sensor was working; stopping the machine and turning on the LED that indicate low water level. Other than that, it does its job, Ice stay cold for a while, but if you leave it in the machine, it start to melt and you end up with a melted mess of ice, instead than single cubes. so you may want to grab the ice as soon as it is done, and put it in the freezer; because this ice machine makes ice but does not act like a freezer. Last annoying thing is the cleaning part; since you need to open a side valve to purge the water from the bottom of the device. The hole used for purging is the same used by the pump to get the water; so there is always water in there, unless you dry the machine. Overall 4 stars for the fact that works as expected, but the sensor for low water died after a week, which is a joke.

Nice staff ice maker.
Very nice ice maker. I live in AZ and it gets hot down here, and ice becomes a commodity where I work. I have the machine set up in the staff lounge for staff to use for making ice coffee, frappes etc. I have read the reviews where some has had issues with it stopping after a while or others concerned about leaving it on 24/7. I had a different ice maker and it was a hassel bc it would make ice but you had to empty the bin at the end of the day or you would just collect water after it melted. This ice maker will recycle the water that melts. A big plus. It makes enough ice for my staff which consist of 15 people. More than that it may be too small of an ice maker, remember this is not an industrial size ice maker so its not gonna make ice for 100 people. Also to tackle the issue of leaving the ice maker 24/7 and risk it running out of freon, I connected it to an electrical timer which only cost me $4 at a local hardware shop. So my ice maker turn on in the morning and powers off at the end of the day so that it does not make ice all night long when no one will use it. (This trick is only to ensure that the machine shuts down and wont run 24/7, you still need to press make ice button once at the beginning of the day, but it makes ice rather quick). If you I need to store ice, I have ice bags and store excess ice in it and leave it in the freezer and not have to use the device until you need to make some more. Very nice device and my staff loves it. Also it is not as loud as I expected. It is as loud as a dorm room mini fridge.

Do Not Purchase This Product - Please Read
Read in Full Before Making a Purchasing Mistake. I received this product on May 5. It was perfect for what we wanted and worked well. Three weeks after we received it, it stopped working and displayed the message to add water when it was already full and would not make ice. Now I purchased the Allstate replacement plan for 3 years when I bought the product so I filed a claim to have it replaced. The claim was denied because it was still under manufacturers warranty (glad I purchased that). I next contacted igloo's maker Curtis International. It has been the worst customer service relationship that I have ever experienced. The first time I contacted them I received an automated message asking me to leave my name, issue, and a call back number since multiple operators were asssting other customers. I did this and waited three days with no return call. This is when I called a second time. This time I spoke to a representative and gave her all of the information and she gave me a case file number. You then need to wait until you receive an email from them to respond with the required information to have your product fixed. After receiving their email I sent them all the information and then needed to wait for further direction from their company on the steps to take to have the unit repaired. After a week of no response, I called again and was told that I did not allow for the 6-10 business days that are required to receive a response. After 12 business days, and no response, I called again and was asked give the same information that I had already given them multiple times. The representative told me to give them another week before I call again. Today, 16 business days from the original email, I received a generic respond detailing the procedures to ship it back with insurance. They also stated that as per their warranty, the customer assumes the shipping cost. I took the unit to my post office and was told that the shipping from Pennsylvania to California would be around $80. The unit cost me $115 when I purchased it. So now I am stuck with a broken ice maker and no real options I guess other than purchasing a new one because it make zero financial sense to send this one back to Curtis International. - Please take my advice and do not purchase this product from this company you will likely be very disappointed.

Happy with it so far and it's churning out ice as specified
Might change my review later, but for the first hour of operation, it really looks good. So far, whatever size we set it too, (ice size) is almost "exact" (at least to the minute - small ice size at 9 minutes on the first ice offering, 10 minutes on the second batch of ice at the medium size, and 13 minutes on the dot for the larger ice size) We purchased, didn't open and returned a unit from SAM's because we read the reviews for that unit when we got home. Not good, esp. over the long haul. The IGLOO seemed to get overall better reviews, but just in case, we did purchase the extended warranty thru an Amazon proxy supplier. (or possibly maybe just a "seller" of product warranty's) It's presently located inside the house and the ice in the bin says frozen. (while it's making ice) Since it was purchased for camping and might be located (and operating, esp. being opened and closed) outside on a picnic table, I guess we'll have to see how it does in that environment Pro : - It works (so far) like the manufacturer says it does - It's decently quiet, though not silent (if would never bother me) Con : - It's a little larger than I'd like, but I definitely wanted the IGLOO brand and anyway, I don't know if a smaller unit is even available from any other manufacturer - I kind of wish the scoop could be stored in a special place inside,. Not a big deal and will try simply laying it in the ice bin to start with (thinking about insects "visiting" the scoop if left lying out on a picnic table and "kids" touching the handle that is now touching.lying in the ice) (Might just use that ice for the cooler) Edit : OK, I want to edit my review after five or so straight days of "flat out" running the new ice maker 4 stars to 5 stars and it is "pouring ice out" - as for someone's issue of freezing the "wet ice," we don't see the problem. We are bagging the ice in gallon plastic bags and throwing it in the freezer. We weren't always particular quick about emptying the bin either. (so there was also some melting) It "does" stick together after deep freezing it, but if you drop the bag on the counter, the ice breaks apart perfectly. I guess we have 18 gallon sized bags of ice now, not counting what we used or threw out. I really like this thing. I do think "the mechanism" appears a bit fragile. It may not hold up and it (the machine) doesn't need any "little fingers" in it for any reason. The machine doesn't seem very "industrial," but I guess I'll update this later if it fails. But so far, we couldn't be happier with this unit

Very happy with purchase so far, fits and looks nice on the countertop
So far, this countertop icemaker has been very good to us. It does make ice every six minutes as stated, and is very easy to use and refill the water tank. We have been using filtered water to cut down the scale build-up that we get because of the hard water in our house. The ice cubes are not totally clear, but that is not a problem considering this unit makes soft ice. The unit so far is been extremely reliable, consistent with the ice it makes, and also looks good on the countertop. Since it does not have any type of freezer unit built into it, just keep in mind that the ice at the bottom will eventually start to melt and drip back into the fill tank, this doesn't really seem to be an issue and if we don't use the ice for a fair amount of time, will just take the fresh cubes off the top and dump the old, and it will make new ice automatically once the level goes down. And being that it makes ice every 6 minutes it really doesn't take that long to fill the been back up. PROS: - Makes Ice Fast - Fairly Large Ice Bin and Water Tank - Ice Tastes Great especially when using filtered water - Looks and Fits Well on Standard Countertop - Easy to Maintain CONS: - A bit more noisy than most would like but it only takes a few days to get used to it then you don't really notice it all that much. - Ice will build up at the dispenser point and sometimes not fill the ice bin up all the way. This is a minor irritant and is easily fixed by casually opening the ice bin lid and using the included scoop to knock the ice into the bin. I've looked at a lot of different ice machines and read a lot of different reviews and came to the conclusion that this one seems like it has the best of both worlds, a decent price, and decent performance. So far I have not been disappointed. I would recommend this for anybody that's looking for a cost-effective decent icemaker that will crank out lots of ice 24 seven when needed.

Good ice machine, even for bulk ice for a family
6/14/2019 - Providing an update to this review. The ice maker works well, but the "pusher" broke a piece of plastic at the hinge. A very simple replacement but it's difficult to impossible to find parts. I have an email in to curtis international, but am not currently hopeful that they can assist with this issue. Due to not being able to find simple parts I'm reducing to 3 stars as of now. I purchased mine to produce ice for use on the weekends. I have 2 kids - one in softball, one in baseball and ice is a very nice luxury on the weekends (tournaments all the time). For it's intended purpose this machine is just about perfect. The ice is nice, it produces it pretty quickly and it stays in the bin for a good period before needing to start again. I bought the smaller one since we don't have a ton of space really. The biggest issue I had was that it would say it was full when it was not full by my standards. It was plenty full for what it was intended for - but I found the sensor on the right side and if you stick the scoop over it, it'll just plug along producing ice. I think I can fill an 8lbs bag of ice in 4-5 sessions now - before it was several and had to babysit it so it would not go on standby. I'd say it's right at 26lbs a day too. If using this for what I use it for - yes it is a little hassle, but the ice you buy from wherever can be wet (if from a machine) or really get expensive when you need so much. In a 5 day period I've filled 12, 8lbs bags and have them stored in our freezer. That's 96lbs. Now this is before thinking of blocking the sensor I could see this being upped to 16-18 bags in a 5 day period which is 128-144lbs in a 5 day period (which is more than advertised). Yes, there is air space - but same with all the other ice you buy and with doing it yourself you can pack them fuller and the type of ice is great for just about anything. I supplement this with ice packs as well. I'm not sure if the machine will last long using it in this manner (heavy usage, not a lot of down time), but I like it at this point.
