I’ve had this flashlight about a week, and I really like it. I went through a pretty extensive process of evaluation to decide which Rovyvon light I wanted, so I think it’s worth sharing what I found out.Rovyvon makes a lot of flavors of their Aurora series lights. There are a lot of different body materials (polycoarbonate, aluminum, stainless, titanium), and feature variations, and two different colors of the main LED, but they all break down into 3 sizes.The A_ series is about the same size as an AA battery if you discount the keyring loop on the tail, and it has a 130 mAh battery.The A_x series are the newer versions of the A_ series, and are slightly bigger. They’re about the same width as a chapstick, but about 1/4” shorter than the chapstick, and have a 300 mAh battery.The A2_ series has a 600 mAh replaceable battery (don’t get too excited, it’s proprietary and costs like $30) and is more like the size of an 18650 battery.Weights vary depending on the body material. The polycarbonate A- series weight almost nothing.The bigger the battery, the brighter the main LED, and the longer it will last. All of them have a “turbo” mode that is super bright, but only stays super bright for about 2 minutes before it has to step down to a lower level to avoid overheating. (Rovyvon is very clear about this, and gives you the specs for both light levels.) The medium mode also steps down. For example, the A5x with the Cree LED in Turbo produces 650 lumens, but steps down to 130 lumens in a couple of minutes. The Nichia LED version of the same light goes from 450 L down to 90 L.What this means is, you can have a super bright flashlight for a minute or two, and a moderately bright flashlight for an hour or more.I tried 4 different polycarbonate models. I wanted a light that:- Is small and light enough to fit in my pocket without my noticing it’s there- is rechargeable or has a removable rechargeable battery- Doesn’t turn on in my pocket and drain the battery- Is bright and long lasting enough to hike a half hour on a dark road- Has a nice low-level light for when you want a bit of candlelight or moonlight in the room- Is bright enough on its turbo mode to scare away coyotesThe A_ series are incredibly small and lightweight. Love that. Small battery, not so long-lasting. The Turbo modes were very bright but not stun-gun level. I found that the step-down light level was too low for me to walk around on rough terrain in the dark. It was borderline, though. If you’re young and have good vision, they may be plenty bright. But that made me go to the A_x series.The A5x with Nichia LED was bright enough in Turbo and step-down, and it can last 90 mins (according to Rovyvon. I haven’t tested that.) I also like that it has 4 light levels (A_ series only has three). There’s a pretty low Moonlight mode. The warmer LEDColor and high CRI of the Nichia LED seems to give a little better definition to objects in the dark, which makes up for it not being as bright as the CREE version.Then there’s the question of all the versions and their different options. I wanted the side light, so that meant choosing a polycarbonate body.I liked the idea of glow-in-the-dark, so I checked out the green (A5 and A5x) and the blue (A7). While I loved the blue when it was glowing brightly, it doesn’t glow nearly as bright as the green. More important, after they’ve been discharging for a while and the glow is just visible in the dark, I can’t tell the difference between blue and green color. So the green seemed a better choice to me.They also offer different colors of side lights. The white-and-red versions have one or two white LED’s, and a red LED that can either be on steadily or flash. There’s a white, red and blue option that flashes red/blue like a police car, too.Then there’s the white-and-UV options. RovyVon says the the UV is mainly to charge up the glow-in-the-dark body. (You can use it to see funny stuff embedded in currency, too.) If charging up the body is the only thing you need UV for, then don’t bother getting the UV versions. The body charges up just fine by turning on the white side-lights for about two minutes; that enough to make it glow all night. (I stick the whole flashlight in an empty cookie-wrapper that’s made of a reflective plastic inside, that seems to charge it even better.)The A_x series has two brightness levels for the side white LEDs. I selected a white and red option (A5x), which has a red that’s good enough to read small things without spoiling my night vision. The other light levels are all good as explained above. It fits in the 5th pocket of my jeans, and even if it’s in the main pocket, it doens’t seem to get beaten up by my keys, pocketknife, etc. It holds a charge well. It appears to be well-made, but only time will tell about that.If you only need a light now and then, the little A_ series might be just the thing, but I think they’re starting to get harder to find. The A_x series packs a lot more brightness, duration, and a wider range of features for only a tiny increase in size (the A_x is actually a little easier to hold in your hand, too, and easier to clip onto the brim of your cap because the clip is longer.) I have not tried the A2_ series, but the size and weight specs seem like it would not disappear in your pocket quite as readily.

This is not your average cheap dollar flashlight... This is a really professionally built, rugged flashlight, that glows in the dark! This is my second one, and I'm happy to spend the bucks on it. It's tough, it's small, it's bright, it's lightweight, the battery lasts forever, and it's well built, I could not be happier with this flashlight! It's also full of little options in how you control it, and they are well thought out options. It actually comes with-- and needs an instruction manual to operate! I currently own an Aurora A5, (dimmer version of this light), which I have had on my keyring or well over a year now, and it still works just as well as when it was new. I bought this Aurora A7 because it is slightly brighter than the A5, and I wanted something reliable for backpacking. I was a bit worried that the quality might have gone down between when I bought the A5, and this one, but nope, this is the same flashlight, just brighter. How bright you might ask? Don't look into it, you won't see anything for quite a while, it is the brightest flashlight I have seen in this size, it easily rivels larger lights! I can light trees up that are 50 to 75 feet away at night, and see clearly what is in them... About the only thing bad I can say about this flashlight is that if you leave it on for long periods of time, (over three minutes), you can start to feel it get slightly warm around the LED. Look at the photos-- the one of the curio cabinet hanging on the wall was taken in full daylight, in a very well lit room, with lots of windows around it and it still blew out the sensors on an iPhone 17 Pro Max due to brightness! The thing is made of glow in teh dark plastic of some sort, that does not break, and is very visible all night while backpacking. It also has built in side lights in it. I highly recommend this to anyone wanting a small very bright, long lasting, well made light for the keyring.

Click again to cycle through brightness, blinking, etc. These lights come on just below the on/off switch and if unaware can be really a shock to the eyes. Keep your finger over them as you naturally would when typically turning on the flashlight. Depending on model, your third sidelight setting will either be a UV feature to make the light really glow beautifully in in the dark for many hours, or a red light version. However, here’s what I’ve learned re the UV advantages:On almost all of the A series models, UV won’t do any counterfeit bill or crime detection. If you need that get the A8UV. However, despite the similar physical look of this model you will give up the glow (GITD) ability. The red color in some models is more useful than I’d figured and can be used blinking, or not. The other models with UV instead of red do make the glow more quickly intense. However, you do not need this feature at all to ensure your light will glow beautifully, either short term or overnight.LUMENS: Plenty! Don’t worry about the numbers. All are exceedingly bright, whether the emitter is cooler XP-G3 CREE or warmer NICHIA 219. What’s most important to so-called pros like me is the lowest low setting, also referred to as “firefly” or “moonlight.” All current models will go down to either 2 or 3 lumens. The difference between 2 and 3 is not noticeable in real world use. That’s not as low as you’d think in the middle of the night. (More about this later.)DIFFERENCES BETWEEN MODELS:Very little indeed. At the time of this review, the $27 versions with GITD can still be found in either Nichia with red sidelight option, or Cree without the red sidelights. A tremendous value! (As is $38 for lights of this caliber.)A5 or A5X: Great! These can be found as low as $27 when the pricing is best. Same model, whether marketed as “X “or not.A8UV or A8U: Again, same light. This is the one that DOES NOT GLOW. But it has genuine UV counterfeit detection. The other models marked U or UV do not.A7X: It glows blue instead of green. Keep in mind blue looks cool but is not quite as bright.NICHIA OR NOT?With most having a free returns policy, you may want to pick up both the Cree and Nichia versions of the light you are interested in, if offered. You can technically get these to tail stand so they work like a candle. However, not with the clip on, and not easily. I’m planning to glue a small round magnetized disc on the bottom so my Aurora’s will now easily stand up.The Auroras are unusual in having the sidelights, so they can work like a lamp with the light oriented face down, but not at the lowest moonlight setting I covet late night.IS THE “LOW” AT 2-3 LUMENS LOW ENOUGH?No. I hope the good folks at RovyVon will adjust this down to .5 lumens like several competing brands like OLIGHT and EAGTAC. Is it a deal killer? Not for most people. But in the middle of the night 2-3 lumens actually is jarringly bright. Perfect is .5 lumens. Fingers crossed for an Aurora improvement to make a near perfect light even better.SHOULD YOU BUY ONE?Absolutely! These are the greatest and I feel this A5 model is the best of all. I highly recommend this series of flashlight. I could not more highly recommend this series of flashlight. Much tinier than you may expect and truly just a bit bigger than a AA battery. All recent models fully charge in 90 minutes. All are profoundly excellent for the money with a better than average two year warranty, too. If this is your first LED flashlight prepare to be blown away by the brightness .If you are like many torch-heads like me, your RovyVon become a bright new “gateway drug” to starting an awesome new flashlight collecting hobby.

I own quite a few lights that I use for work. Ive owned many over the years. Until recently I never even thought to own such a small "keychain" flashlight as they were of little use other than to light up a small keyway. As LED & battery technology has made such great progess in recent years that has made this light a real practical and useful tool.650 lumens is a lot of light in such a small package so there's plenty of output if you need it. Theres 4 selectable levels for the front led. The lowest is more like what you'd expect from an older keychain light. Levels 2 and 3 are well spaced.Level 2 is good if its very dark and you want a bit more light but don't want to be blinded. Levels 3 and 4 put out quite a bit of light for things like walking the dog or lighting a whole room. The beam is floody so its good for general area lighting. This is not a light "thrower".The light also has side lights with three leds. Two are for general lighing and are warm white and good for general close illumination for reading a trail map and such. These leds have 2 light levels and a blinky mode. They are also more battery friendly. the middle side led is a UV led which is primarily used to illuminate the glow in the dark body and store that light in the body of the light as either blue or green depending on the model. As with all glow in the dark objects, the intensity will fade over time. The uv light is cut down in intensity being inside the shell but it still casts a useable intensity.The user interface is well thought out and easy to use.I like the one press access to the brightest setting with a press hold. The light will go off after the hold is released.Two presses will bring you to the main front led modes with 4 levels of brightness from "moonlight" to 650 lumens. The light stays on in this mode at the selected brightness level until it is turned off with a press hold.Three presses brings you into the side LEDs for general area illumnation. A quick press brings you through the brightness levels and the blinky mode.Four presses lights up the UV led. A single quick press will turn this LED mode off.RovyVon makes many versions of this light to suit various tastes and uses. While the cost may seem a bit high for such a small unit, its variety of functions, versatility and quality are all there, it is a well thought out, well made, practical and useful unit in a very small package.There isn't any negative I can see with this light other than you may find yourself playing with it more than you expected. Its a fun toy as well as usefull tool. Good thing it has good battery life too ;)

Best compact flashlight ever! Highly recommended!!!

I usually keep a AAA battery powered flashlight in my 5th pocket in my jeans. Recently I decided to look into lithium options with built in charging via USB-C. I took a shot on this one and I’m very happy I did.First off, it is true USB-C. If you have a USB C charger and a C to C cable it will charge, unlike so many other items out there that require a USB A brick with A to C cable.It is tiny. Barely larger than a AAA battery itself, with significantly more output and run time than any of those have. The one negative here is the battery isn’t user replaceable. We’ll see how long it lasts before the device is waste due to that. But I expect based on how often I use it for it to last quite a while.The magnet in the clip is quite strong, and the optional on for the tail is also pretty strong. Both easily hold the flashlight wherever you stick it. The side lights are also very usable. I often work in data centers, and often the lighting in there isn’t great for reading the labels on equipment. Being able to stick this to the side of the rack and use the side lights is great.Both the main light and side lights have multiple brightnesses. And this starts to get into the user interface. If the light is off, hitting the button once does nothing. Most normal people will find this annoying, and as someone who uses a few different modern flashlights it is different than many I have and I sometimes have to remember how to works. Holding the button down shines at the brightest setting until you let go (turbo mode). In a quick and dirty scenario this actually works very well, but is the opposite of a lot of other flashlights that you hold down for the dimmest setting.To use the flashlight normally you double tap the button. Bear in mind this thing is meant to be kept in a pocket or purse, so this is so that it is much harder to accidentally turn on. Tap 3 time for the side lights. And depending on which version 4 times for the UV light. In each of those different modes you tap the button to increase the brightness, and the top brightness will then go to the dimmest. If you have the red model the red options appear as you tap through the side lights. The one labeled Blue at the time I purchased was the UV one, it doesn’t have red.The UV one is more useful than they give it credit for. It actually does show all the security features on US money in my experience.And the glow in the dark is a bit of a gimmick. I find it only glows for a few minutes. It is great for if you just turned it off and dropped it somewhere. But don’t expect to use it as a nightlight with the GITD feature.These are a bit more expensive than some other options out there, especially for the size and output. But I find the usability to be worth it.

This is my favorite aurora light yet. I own 4 (A9Cu, A1, A4Ti, A7) and they are all great lights. The newer version has a larger battery which i greatly appreciate since that was the one downside of the older versions. I like the new button design and the controls are easy to use.This light has so many useful functions if you were to purchase only one Aurora i definitely recommend the A7 with UV light. It is ultra lightweight, super bright, and very handy! I use mine all the time as a headlight by clipping it onto my hat. It is so lightweight you can barely feel it and has more than enough brightness to see what you need to.The main light has a great beam pattern and has a great spot light that shines far. I usually use mine on medium or high to take my dog outside at night and it is more than enough light to see. On turbo i can see my horses in the field 50 yards away.It also has 2 led flood lights in the center of the light and the body of the A7 diffuses the light so they make great flood lights to read maps or find things in the car at night.If that wasnt enough it also has a UV light that can see stains on carpet or sheets and would be very useful (but probably scary) to use at hotels. The UV light also makes the body of the flashlight glow blue which is a neat feature.Also on a side note i read one review that said he left his light fully charged in a drawer and came back 2 months later and it was completely dead. That concerned me because like i said i own 4 and at least 2 stay in the drawer all the time. After reading that i tried my other Aurora's that had been left in the drawer for over a year and they still shined bright. Im sure they lost some power because all lithium ion batteries slowly discharge over time but mine still worked over a year after charging them.To sum it up if you want an Aurora the A7 with UV is the best one to get. I have a titanium version, a copper version, and a plastic verison and i definitely recommend the plastic A7 because it is less than half the weight of the metal versions. With a small flashlight like this weight matters when in your pocket or clipped to your hat or clipped to your keys.Bottom line...Buy the Aurora A7 UV. You wont regret it.

This is a tiny powerhouse of a torch! Very bright main light with dimmable settings, side LEDs provide useful area lighting & the UV function is there if needed. To be honest, I'm not sure how effective this would be, but it does a superb job of "charging" the material in the body of the torch, which then glows quite brightly & for some time!The magnetised pen clip & end cap attachments both work well & are strong enough to keep the torch stuck on a metal surface.I would also like to compliment & recommend this seller. When the torch arrived the USB connection didn't seem that solid, there wasn't a firm click & it felt a bit loose. It charged OK, but I contacted them just to enquire if this was normal. After a very quick response & no further queries at all they sent me a brand new replacement that arrived the next day!!Absolutely stellar service & (sadly) not that common any more!A fantastic little torch & a highly recommended seller!! I couldn't ask for better than that.Thank you 😊

This is a great little flashlight.I love the UI. Worrks like a dream.I wanted it specifically for its moonlight mode, so I can see where I am going when others are already asleep.I have also found that I use the momentary on high often when outside.This thing is light, compact and very functional.I have not used the side lights much yet, bey they are pretty good.The magnetic pocket clip is a great idea and I clip the light to my cap when running before sunrise.Thanx for an awesome product.

man aged 61, ill health has made me go ultra light, this works extremely well, will buy again and again, amazing light output love the luminous find in the dark, all you need is a peak cap or in your teeth, and camping is so easy in the dark
