No problems/registered immediately/works perfectly
I needed a replacement handset for one that had somehow lost its speaker capabilities (It wouldn't work with the intercom or the speakerphone, and the phone wouldn't ring. There was some loose wire or connection somewhere because if I banged it against my hand I could temporarily hear sound, then it would cut out again.). Since I'd originally gotten the 2 handset version of this cordless VTech model (1 base with answering machine and 2 handsets), this was the most inexpensive way to rectify the problem. Also, it's worth pointing out that this accessory handset with a new battery is cheaper than an OEM battery by itself. I had no problem whatsoever registering this handset with the base. The only issue I ran into was that since I still had the original non-ringing handset already registered as the number 2 handset, this handset automatically registered as the number 3 handset. That was a problem mainly because my father isn't very technical and with just the 2 handset setup, he could press the intercom button without having to choose between handset 2 and handset 3, and the handset where I work would ring. Once there are 3 handsets, just pressing the intercom button will not automatically cause any of the other handsets to ring without first choosing between the different handsets. So I read the manual, UN-registered all 3 handsets (you have to hold the locate button for 10 seconds, vs 4 seconds to register, then press the locate button within 5 seconds to un-register all the handsets.) Then I took the battery out of the old non-ringing handset, and just registered the original, fully working base handset and this new accessory handset. Now everything is back to normal just like before the accessory handset went on the fritz. I charged the new handset for 24 hours, and it works like a charm. I'm very satisfied. (I should note that even when new, and fully charged, the batteries in these handsets are rather weak. We basically leave them in their respective chargers all the time unless we're talking on the phone. Then afterwards we return them to their charging bases. I've never had the phone's battery die during a conversation, but I have found the phone to be almost fully drained if left out of the charger for 24 hours or so. Finally, I knew when I purchased this item that it was an ACCESSORY PHONE ONLY. Meaning, it WILL NOT WORK unless you've already got a VTECH BASE UNIT to piggy back off of. I'm not sure why so many people are unclear on this, but the description seems pretty clear to me. This is JUST AN ADD-ON EXTENSION PHONE TO AN EXISTING SYSTEM. It WILL NOT WORK all by itself.

Great phone system.
In December of 2012 I bought a set of VTech CS6419-2 phones. They work perfectly. The sound is great, especially on speaker. I was worried they would be cheap (they were inexpensive), and die soon, but they have worked perfectly until now. I decided to get a pair of extensions for other rooms. I am pleased with these phones, also. They work well and "set up" was quick and easy once I read the directions. It took less than 5 minutes for the new extension phones to link to my base phone. I can find no faults with these phones; they are reliable, work well, last well, and are inexpensive.

Tips to Make it Work vs. Throwing it at the Wall
This is the most infuriating thing to pair with your existing phone set but have heart, I do have a few suggestions to make it easier. But firstly, CHARGE IT. No really. It's not just a useless thing they print on the instructions. The tiny bit of battery it may come with is not sufficient. Do yourself a favor and just charge it fully before attempting this nonsense 1. The quick instructions are wrong and different from the actual instruction booklet. What worked for us was to PLACE the new handset in the main phone base that you already have and PRESS "Find Handset" until it turns red (about 3-4 seconds). (This is in the main instruction booklet but not the quick instruction paper). 2. LIFT the new handset off the base and hit # button (Lifting it out of the base before hitting the # button is not in any of the instructions but the only way we found to make it work). 3. Thank us for saving you from banging your head against the wall for 45 minutes trying to get it to pair... not that I'd have personal experience in that area or anything. After syncing/pairing/whatever it seemed to work just fine. Good addition to our existing phone set when we needed another handset for the basement. Great product, lousy instructions!

Great Add-on Extension - Read More for Transferring from One Base to Another
I bought this Accessory Handset in 2017 as an extension to a Base Set (Base Set purchased in 2016). I paired it just fine on initial set-up. Fast forward to 2020 and my original Base Set developed an issue so I ordered a new Base Set because these phones have been so good for us. When the new Base Set arrived, I tried to pair this accessory handset but it failed. After a little research I found that I had to un-pair it from the first base. Un-pairing is easy. First thing is to be sure the Accessory Handset is fully charged. Press MENU/SELECT then enter *7890#. Press the VOLUME down (large round circle) to select "Test Handset" using the MENU/SELECT button again. On the next menu you will see "SW Version" and "RFPI IPUI". Press the VOLUME up to see the NEXT PAGE option and select that. On this menu you will select the REGSTR CLEAR option. Press MENU/SELECT to confirm. Now remove battery from handset and wait a minute before plugging battery back in. At this point the display should be prompting you to PAIR the handset. Pair to new base by pressing and holding the FIND HANDSET button on the base for 4 seconds (red IN USE light will light up). Now press the # button on the handset and it should respond that it is registering. I just transferred all three of my original handsets to my new base using this process and it worked great. I now have one base operating 5 handsets. (Footnote, the original base now has no handsets paired to it so I am using it as a charging base.

Have this unit plus a satellite unit. So far it is working fine although it has one irritating feature. It shows calls as missed calls but not so. Easy to clear though. Good range and I like the ring tone. Was easy to set up. It is a keeper.

Exactly what I needed! Owned a 3 unit set for 6 years and finally realized that I could add to it instead of buying a new one. It was easy to connect to the main unit. Highly recommend.
