One star removed for not being UL certified. Went through a lit of budget irons before this worked for me. Problem with reviews is that they don't often specify what an iron is good for. Any budget 25W $10 iron will work for soldering new connections in most electronics work. The main factors to evaluate are: 1. Does it have the right tip for the work? 2. Does it work for remove existing solder using a pump or wick especially from difficult spots like a pot's body or a grounding plate which can conduct heat away? 3. Do the tips clean well between soldering and tinning or lose heat conductivity quickly? This was the first combination solution that worked for me for all of the above factors. A variable control is a necessity for 2. Spare tips are essential for 1. The included cleaning accessories were needed for 3. After struggling with a couple of different irons, this allowed me to finish the work quickly without much fuss. The included tips are designed for more precision work in small electronics than big electrical work. Seems like a good fit for applications like guitar pickup replacements, robotics and science kits, raspberry pi based board work, hobby electronics projects, etc. Don't have enough usage to say whether longevity is good. But didn't see any evidence otherwise.

It solders stuff, works good.

Hopefully it continues to work for at least a year.

Love having a soldering station with a tip cleaner and sponge over a seperate iron and stand. I'm not heavily experienced in soldering so I don't know how much I would need a LCD temperature display, so it works great for me!

I've had this soldering iron for a couple years, and started using it on a nearly daily basis working from home. After 9 months of that the plastic in the pen that holds the metal piece where the tips screw in fell apart because the plastic got brittle due to heat exposure. This is adequate for the occasional home use, but if it will be sitting on for hours per day regularly it will fall apart. I've never seen a weller at work fail like this, and they've been used daily for decades. Until it fell apart I was pretty happy with it. One thing I did not like was that there is no indication that it is on, a lot of soldering irons have an indicator light. It's easy to forget to turn it off after using it intermittently.

Overall you get great value for your money as an entry level soldering iron. Couple things to note: - Included solder sucks. - Don't use the finest tip, it doesn't heat all the way to the end. The slightly blunter tips work fine and are still sufficient for most all use cases. With those minor kinks in mind, there's no issues dropping gorgeous Hershey's Kisses onto some PCB with this thing.

As a beginner electronics hobbyist/guitar repair, I wanted to buy a reasonably priced solder station. I purchased the Vastar from Amazon because it looked like good value. I am giving it 5 Stars and very usable for people like me. I checked out video reviews on YouTube and found a couple of guys who said they also thought it was very good value. However one guy claimed that the Vastar temperature control doesn't heat the soldering iron up to what it should be. He filmed himself using a digital spot meter which shines a light on the tip. He then said he was returning it to Amazon. His spot meter must be inaccurate. Because when I received the Vastar I also tested it. I have a very good Klein MM2300 multi-meter with a temperature test probe. When I turned the heat control up on the Vastar, the iron heated very quickly. The Klein gauge immediately showed it heating up to 650 degrees F (350 C ) and kept rising. I have no doubts that my Klein multi-meter is very accurate and the iron does heats up correctly. Although the Vastar doesn't have a temperature gauge, you can't beat the price. If you want a soldering station with a temperature gauge, they cost more money. For the home hobbyist/guitar repair person etc. Vastar is great value.

This is a fantastic soldering station, I have 2 of these and use them nearly daily. It works as advertised and does a good job. My only complaint is that the solder provided does not contain flux - if you don't notice this and don't use separate flux, you're going to have a very frustrating time soldering, the solder will not adhere well to the surfaces. Definitely toss the solder out that comes with it and get one that lists flux in the ingredients, it will make soldering vastly more easy for you.

Wow, I got this to get a persistent tin solder off of a large tine/prong of metal. My previous one didn't run so hot (Weller 60W with lights), or maybe I just didn't wait long enough to heat up the metal prong. This one melts the tin more readily than the Weller, and I know when it's on (the on/off indicator light) and how hot it is (control knob). And I guess I built up a little skill as I go, I learned that the prong needs to heat up first. I also like the tin removal kit, it's very handy when the solder gets tin buildup. Also the coil holder keeps me from being careless in putting it down. Too bad it doesn't have the solder sucker in the kit. Also I was super excited in using it I plugged it in without realizing the plastic cover was still on (it melts and I have to scrape it off, thankfully it was easy)--oops!
