The gel pad has a thick cover and the elastic band with velcro helps keep the pad over the body region. I would recommend this item for any home that has athletes or elderly people or patients with joint problems.

This gel pad is easy to use both for hot and cold applications. You need to plan a few hours in advance for the cold application as it has to be kept in the freezer for 3 hours. This is a good thing. Used for backache. It helped. A lot better than the heating pad I used for lower back pain. Will give u relief for a longer time. Two things to point out.. 1. The gel gets to normal temp quite soon after few days of use. 2. The belt pack to too small to out the ice bag. If u put it once u won't even try to take it out.
