undefinedIt's not often that such a small machine has impressed so much, but this small sander has done just that. Firstly, it is very well made, of solid construction with attention to detail down to the smallest component. It is designed for finishing panels or square timbers and can take a panel up to 430mm wide or timber up to 100mm high. Powered by a 750W induction motor, with a separate 90W variable speed conveyor motor it offers plenty of control over the finish. The conveyor is made from soft, high grip rubber which will not mark the work. A crank handle controls the height of the conveyor, with a scale giving an indication of its setting. The sanding drum takes strips of 76mm wide abrasives; there is a wide range to choose from to suit all tasks. Quick release clips secure the abrasive, with one being spring-loaded to accommodate stretching of the abrasive to a small degree. Dust extraction is very important, a single dust port effectively removes the waste when connected to a suitable extractor. A compact machine supplied with a sturdy stand, it will not take up much space and will complement many workshops. N.B. Drum sanders are used as part of the finishing process, they are not intended to be used as a planer/thicknesser or for significant stock removal. A drum sander does not replace a planer/thicknesser and vice versa. Drum sanders are intended to be used with already planed and thicknessed material. Overall a planer/thicknesser is meant to dimension timber, the drum sander to finish it.
