A Taste of Guam

I’m from Guam and it’s so nice to have this book on hand to try to learn how to cook my favorites from back home!

Taste of Guam is theeeee perfect gift to those you love who are far from home! It’s the perfect gift for military families, college students, friends, etc., who have left Guam/Saipan and miss home cooked island food flavor!!!

Having been to Guam two separate times (76-78), then again while in the Air Force (86-88), I have tasted quite a few Guamanian dishes. The fiestas that are had throughout the island just about all year long celebrating different Saints, makes it an enjoyable time to mingle and get to know the people, food and their culture.

LVE IT!!! If you have ever been to Guam, USA - where America's day begins; you know about fiestas and village gatherings where everyone brings a dish along with an open spit cooked pig. Chicken keloquin, red rice, and so many delicious dishes; this is an example of what you can expect to be the norm on Guam dinner tables if you have never been to Guam. If you have been to Guam like myself; this brought back so many memories. Excellent book and I do recommend it. I just wished it was more supplied with the various other recipes that are not listed.

This book along with it's companion "Remember Guam" makes it possible for anyone who is missing the food on Guam to make authentic Chamorro dishes. I grew up on Guam but have been away for many years and living in an area that has almost no Chamorro people so I haven't had any of the dishes that I so enjoyed living on Guam. Just a few days after getting this book, I had made a little "mini fiesta" at my home and LOVED the results. It also brings me great joy to be able to share these dishes with friends and family who have never had them and see how much they like the food. If you ever lived on Guam, or have visited and wish you knew how to fix all of that fantastic food, buy this book and it's companion and you will be the resident expert! Great job Paula!

Very good book. A lot of these recipes I didnt know were Chamorro. Grew up thinking these were filipino dishes since my half filipino mother cooked them all the time. I guess she got them from my dad/family in Saipan.

My husband is from Guam, and i really wanted to be able to cook him some dishes from his childhood. He has taught me how to cook a few dishes, but there are some in the book I can't wait to try. I wish there were pictures though, so that I could compare my finish product to it. That way I can know I was some what on the right track. Lol

Where have you been all these years that I've been in California? That's what I keep asking myself. Since I've purchased it, I've been cooking my favorite recipes. Thank you, Paula!!!

I got this after seeing Guam style food on a TV show, and thinking it looked a bit different and interesting. This book did not meet expectations because it was pretty lightweight for the price, and a big section is American recipes anyway. Also a lot of the recipes are for desserts - not a problem in its-self, but I wish I had known this before I bought it, as I don't eat desserts.
