Eva Green was supposed to be the mistress and she would have been great in the role. The movie has a lot of drama and I was wondering by the half way point if this was going to be an American movie where somebody wins or a European movie where everybody goes home sad. I should have foreseen the director's solution. Sure it was simple but at only one place was it too simple. Gere's realization of what happened with the evidence and how to prove it was a bit too convenient but I think time was just running out on the movie. I enjoyed the movie despite not liking Gere nor Sarandon in real life. The title was well conceived. It says that some things are more valuable in one place than in another. In this case, was valuable to one person was more valuable to another person in several instances in the movie. In his review of Sep 12, 2012, Roger Ebert gave this film his highest rating, four stars out of four. It was to be one of his last reviews, he died on April 4, 2013. The film is a vehicle for Richard Gere, who, at 62, beautifully portrays a silver-haired Wall Street tycoon, a hedge fund manager. His wife is portrayed by Susan Sarandon. She knows, and accepts as part of the game, that he has a mistress on the side, played by the French supermodel Laetitia Casta. Their daughter, Brooke, played by Brit Marling, is CFO of her father’s company. Unbeknownst to Brooke, her father has cooked the books, covering a 412-million-dollar hole with an under-the-table temporary loan from a friend, long enough to pass an audit, in anticipation of the sale of his fund to James Mayfield (Graydon Carter), The latter is stalling as part of his negotiation strategy. While this already causes nervous tension with Richard Gere, his life is massively turned upside down by an event involving his mistress Laetitia Casta, an event which draws the police into his life, in the person of a police detective played by Tim Roth.I will leave the subsequent events for you to discover when you watch the film, which I highly recommend.
