Great stuff! But be prepared for a 3 hour process.

*by B***R on Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on November 6, 2020*

I've used RIT dye several times over the years. Mostly to rescue aging cotton jeans. My most recent project was a rescue operation for 4 pair of fading black jeans. The result was great, all 4 pair of jeans look like new. With that said, this is NOT an easy process. In addition to the dye, you'll need a bunch of other stuff to do it according to directions. And count on about 3 hours to do it right.1.) A plastic or metal tub to hold the dye solution.....preferably outdoors.2.) Enough hot (really hot) water to fill the container and cover the clothing. RIT advises 160 deg F. That means boiling large quantities of water.3.) A cup of table salt to add to the dye solution.4.) Some white vinegar to add to the solution.5.) A sturdy stick like a broomstick to stir the fabric in the dye bath periodically over 30 - 60 minutes.6.) Cold water for the rinse after the dye bath.7.) Some RIT dye fixative to make sure the dye stays put for a long time.8.) More hot water for the dye fixative bath.9.) Cold water for the rinse after the fixative bath.10.) A washer and dryer for the final step.I left my jeans in a metal tub outside for 60 minutes and stirred the fabric around periodically while I was doing lawn work. So you don't have to stand there for an hour while the stuff soaks. Rinsing takes about 3-4 fills and dumps of the container. Hence why an outdoor container and a garden hose comes in handy.I used hot water from the tap (120 deg F) and supplemented with 4 gallons of boiling water I heated in 2 big pasta pots on the stove.I used a scrap piece of 1 X 2 lumber as a stirring stick. The dye fixative is a worthwhile step. It will make all your hard work pay off with longer life of your restored clothing.Like I said at the outset, count on about 3 hours from start until your stuff comes out of the dryer. But there is something sort of satisfying about making something old look new again. And it was a lot cheaper than buying 4 pair of new jeans!

Can Turn Out More Rust Color

*by M***N on Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on August 30, 2022*

I've played around with Rit dyes for many years. Mostly my efforts turned out mottled, but this one gave me a surprise I did not foresee. Instead of turning out a weak brown, as I expected from using less than to achieve the color posted on the bottle, I got light rust-color. Also, I found some fabrics took on more RUST color than others, but all turned out some level of rust color. Live and learn.

    Just okay

*by M***D on Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on December 5, 2019*

Idk guys, this product works okay but it didn't really do much for me.My husband and I sleep on 2 side by side king beds. Recently I noticed that somehow both sheets got some kind of weird yellow stains, like we had spilled oil or spaghetti sauce on them or something (but we didn't). I never did figure out where the stains came from, but try as I might absolutely nothing would remove them. This product was recommended to me, so I gave it a shot. I was warned to soak things overnight though, and not just for a few minutes, with a longer soak helping to draw out set-in stains.I used the bucket method with a giant Rubbermaid container. I was pretty excited when I saw the water rapidly turn a nauseating shade of dingy brown, thinking that must mean it was drawing out tons of old grime. It brightened the sheets a good bit, although to say they looked "brand new" would be a significant exaggeration. The areas in the middle that were much more dingy were still noticeably different from the edges that were brighter. But the stains? If possible, they got worse. They unquestionably did not get better. I actually think they transferred to other spots on the sheets from soaking in the water, and I stirred the container at least a dozen times, moving the water and sheets around. I also used separate containers for each sheet so they wouldn't be crowded inside of the water. And yet, I didn't feel it did a phenomenal job of revitalizing the sheets at all.Still I thought, okay maybe my stains were just too severe - so I used it on an old comforter as well. The comforter is my mom's childhood comforter from the 50s. It has no stains but as it's a white comforter with strawberries and daisies on it, it could be brighter. I was thoroughly encouraged to see the water was practically black with grime, but upon taking the comforter out of the washing machine after rinsing and washing on a regular cycle, I was disappointed that the white background appeared almost greyish, and the colors of the strawberries and daisies had faded a lot.I gave the product one more shot with a white couch cover that was dingy in the areas where people tend to sit the most. Once again, the water quickly appeared to turn dirty very quickly, but by this point I knew that didn't mean much. The couch cover did manage to brighten up the most noticeably of all the linens I soaked - but all the most often used areas still did not reach the brightness level of the sides or corners. The dinginess is still noticeable when I put the cover back on the sofa.Overall I gave this product 2 stars because it does brighten things somewhat and perhaps it would work better if used regularly, or on linens after not much time in use, but if you have linens that are several years old you may not get the results you're hoping for. It definitely does not remove stains. I may use it again, but I'd be sure to start using it quickly after buying the linens instead of waiting until the sheets, towels, couch covers, etc were noticeably dingy.
