The capsule can be twisted open or cut open to pour out the loose powder. You could put 1/2 capsule of powder on cereal or whatever, but Vitamin B complex does not taste good, in my opinion it tastes too bad to eat that way. Beware of this in tablet form. I tried some cheap ones and found as soon as they were on my tongue they got sticky on my tongue and could not be swallowed. If it is in tablet form AND comes well coated with a slippery substance i t can work, but if you cut it in half it likely well have jagged edges and loose power where cut making it hard to swallow. I measure these as passing thru my drill gauge at 19/64 diameter, just tiny smaller than 5/16 inch. Several of my other supplements come in caplets that are larger than 5/16 inch diameter by comparison. **Q: What is the expiration date on the bottle** A: The expiration date is clearly printed on the label. You cannot see it until you purchase it. Have had good luck with this brand, so far.
