so good i bought two of 'em!
space is a premium in my small home. i have floor stands for my and my wife's guitars, but they do this thing where they take up floor space. a lot of floor space. so we decided it was high time to hang those axes on the wall where they will be safer from being knocked over or kicked or otherwise damaged. these string swings were the perfect solution! unit construction the wall plate and bolt-mounted hanger are made of very durable-feeling metal. there's an outer jacket around the bolt to clean up the appearance, and it actually snugs up all the pieces when completely assembled, with the aid of an attached rubber washer. when assembled (which took all of 60 seconds) the unit looks very slick and presentable. i did not use the drywall anchors included with the kit, but instead drove the included screws directly into studs. i could hang 50lbs from this thing if i wanted! the hanger itself the hanger acts like a cradle for the headstock. depending on how tightly you screw it into the wall plate, it can swivel to accommodate asymmetrical headstocks as well. the rubber sleeve covering the bracket is firm but supple, and has a good grip. the rubber washers were not all that tough to put on and do a good job of securing the guitar within the hanger, but i found they are not necessary unless you're afraid you might bump the guitar a lot while it's hanging there. overall these little hangers are great. the guitar body hangs about an inch from the wall and does not come close to touching the wall anywhere when resting still in the hanger. they provide a safe display and storage option for your guitar in a way that no floor stand can equal. i highly recommend buying one or two of these if you want to free up some space in your music room, or even if you just want to fill your wall with functional art.

String Swing Home and Studio Guitar Hanger - Black Metal Base - Perfect for our Wii Guitar Hero needs
This was an excellent purchase. Our kids have been Guitar Hero crazy for a few years, and we quickly tired of the guitars (four of them) piling up in the corner of our living room or being left strewn about. After reading reviews of several different guitar hanger brands, we decided to go with these -- and have been very happy with them. Our walls are made of typical drywall and 2 x 4 stud construction, and installation of one of these hangers took all of about 5 minutes at most. A majority of that time was spent figuring out where the studs were in our wall and I used a Zircon stud finder for that part of job ( Zircon TriScanner Pro SL Edge-Finding Stud Finder with Metal Scanning ). In the end, two of the hangers were screwed in to studs, and two were mounted into the drywall using the drywall anchors supplied with the kit. Note that the instructions on the back of the package call drywall anchors "toggles"... who knows why. As noted, installation was not overly challenging. Once we figured out where to put each hanger, we held each base plate (making sure it was level) in its place on the wall and marked each screw hole with a pencil. For the two hangers screwed into studs, a 1/8 drill bit was used to create guide holes. For the two hangers screwed into drywall anchors, a 1/4 drill bit was used. Next, a medium size Phillips head screwdriver was just the right tool to screw the drywall anchors snugly into the drywall (screw them in until flush with the drywall surface and do not over tighten). Once the drywall anchors were in place, the hanger base plates were screwed into their proper places on the wall with the Phillips head screwdriver. The hanger arms screw into a pre-threaded receptacle on the base plate, but there are two things recommended prior to performing this final step: (1) The threaded shaft on the hanger arms has a protective rubber nipple on it -- take it off -- it is just there to protect the threads during shipping; (2) Slide the keepers (thick rubber washers that comes with the kit) over the protective cap at the end of each arm -- yes, it is a tight fit but only takes a couple seconds to do. This is easier done before installing the arms on to the base plate, because this allows you to use both hands to push a keeper onto each arm. Now you are ready for the final steps: (1) Screw the hanger into the threaded receptacle on the base plate (tighten but don't over-tighten with brute force); (2) Gently lift your guitar into place with one hand and, while holding it steady, adjust the position of the keepers as needed; (3) Let go of your guitar... you are done! Stand back and look at your excellent work. Outstanding! Highly recommended.

Functional, sturdy, attractive
I used these hangers to get my guitar collection off floor stands and onto the wall. This looks even better than I expected - now I can really see and appreciate the guitars. The hangers themselves are well-made and easy to install, once you figure out placement*. I didn't even need a drill. I just started each screw (provided) with a hammer, and screwed it in the wall. If I hit a stud, I was done. If no stud, I backed the screw out and screwed in a wallboard anchor (provided), then screwed the screw back in the wall. I found the hangers plenty secure with the provided anchors, and didn't feel the need to mount the hangers on separate boards anchored to studs as other reviewers have done. Not using separate boards not only simplified installation, it also gives a cleaner look in my opinion. The hangers themselves look and feel high-quality. The hooks can be widened or narrowed, but I found them fine as-is. The hooks can be rotated, which accommodates different headstock shapes and makes it easier to make the guitars straight vertical. *As for placement, I made two rows of hangers, one 20.5" higher than the other. This allowed me to stagger the upper and lower rows so that headstocks of the lower guitars are about level with the shoulders or horns of the upper guitars, and the necks of the lower guitars are centered between the widest parts of the upper guitar bodies. This made a display of 9 guitars in about 91" of wall space. Even though the guitars are varied - acoustic and electric, 36" - 44" in length - the display looks good. I spaced the upper hangers horizontally so that there is a minimum of about 4" between the widest parts of each pair of guitars. This required deciding in advance the arrangement of the guitars, and customizing the horizontal spacing for each guitar because they are so different. I horizontally spaced the lower row so the necks of the lower guitars are centered between the upper guitars.

Strong, affordable, easy to use...what's the problem?
I am at a complete loss to understand why anyone would need "better instructions" on attaching the washers on the yoke, but here are those instructions several reviewers have requested. 1. Take off the black end caps on the yokes. 2. Stick on the washers. 3. Replace the black end caps. These hangers are ridiculously easy to use. The package gives instructions (contrary to some reviews) on adjusting yoke width: "To widen, grasp each arm of the yoke and pull apart. To narrow, put hand around yoke arms and squeeze." Don't see what's so complicated about that, myself. Seriously, they're dead-simple to set up. I couldn't use the drywall anchors because my walls are painted paneling; I can't speak to the effectiveness of those included hangers. I put up a backboard mounted on studs and used #8 panhead screws, as recommended by another reviewer, to mount the hangers on the backboards. I have several of these hangers and intend to buy several more. My instruments are working instruments, not *just* wall art. I bought these hangers intending to use them, take the instruments down and put them back, and these hangers are great for that use. That said, if you want to hang your instruments and mainly leave them hanging, you can trust these hangers. While I do feel a little sarcastic when people complain about ridiculous things that are their problem and not an issue with the product, these hangers truly are dead-simple to use and very reliable. Some reviewers have suggested buying the wood hanger for acoustic guitars because this one allows the guitar to bump into the wall. That's just false. I have three acoustic guitars and five of these hangers. I tried all three guitars (but only one hanger) on a flat wall before mounting them on the backboard. This hanger has a substantial post, and the metal bracket is convex. I would be very surprised if anyone who actually owns this hanger and an acoustic guitar has bumped their guitar against the wall in the course of normal use. I don't see how you could, if you're not rough or careless. If you bump your guitar with this, you would do it with any hanger I've ever seen, because the wall clearance is the same.

Works great for things that won't fit in normal string swing (classical, 5/6 string basses)
I have lots of String swings, and like the others, this one works great. It holds instruments that won't fit well in those (for me, classical guitar and 5/6 string basses...5 strings will fit in the original, but it is tight, and the 6 won't fit at all). I have not used the little rings, but have had no issues on the wall. I have some metal like this, and some wood. I wanted a different look for a different room and went metal this time, but they are all equally well made, and sturdy, even though the metal is thinner than the wood blocks on the original.

A very simple, but good quality wall hanger
This is a very simple, easy to install wall hanger. My only concern is long term durability which is why I gave it 4 stars instead of five. The hanger screws into the base, but the screw (and what is supporting all of the weight of the guitar) is only about a quarter inch thick and maybe an inch and a half long. With that said it seems like it should be just fine.... but time will tell. I have 3 other wall hangers that seem much more solid, but were more difficult to install as well. One of the best things about this kit are the self tapping screw anchors. Screw anchors allow you to mount this anywhere on a wall, not just over a stud. These screw anchors are some of the best I've ever seen. All you need is a screw driver to install them... no drill is necessary. And they seem very solid once installed. Overall I would recommend these hangers and will be buying a few more as I acquire more guitars!

Very Pleased, Good Price, Hangs Away from Wall
I am very pleased with this hanger. My biggest worry was that the guitar would scrape against the wall and cause wear over time. Thankfully this hanger hangs the guitar a good 2 or 3 inches so it never touches even during the process of raising the guitar to hang it. The hanger is coated in rubber and has two rubber stoppers that prevent the guitar from sliding off. The rubber stoppers just stretch ad slide onto the hanger fairly easily, but hold firm. The hanger also comes with a couple of large anchors to allow you to hang it without going into the stud. I ended up using slightly shorter screws and drilling straight into the stud. I am very happy with this purchase. We don't have a lot of space in our apartment, so this is a great option to save space. If it ever needed another one, I would definitely get this brand. Pros: -Decent Price -Sturdy -Hangs guitar away from wall -Rubber coating prevents damage to guitar -Comes with mounting hardware Cons: -None yet

Confidently holds my heavy electric
Purchased this because I wanted to get my guitar up off the floor, where could potentially be nicked from animals/people walking past; I also just wanted some extra floorspace back! Setup was simple: just find a stud, and screw it in. Pretty much all there is to it. I was a little concerned because my electric is rather heavy, but this is an incredibly nice guitar hanger; I would not feel concerned in the least with almost any guitar type hanging from this. As another reviewer noted, it does hang it away from the wall, which is preferred as well. The arms are nicely coated, having plenty of give in the foam so that you don't have to be too careful hanging the guitar onto the hanger, yet still has a solid metal body that would not be easy to bend. So in all, not sure what else could be desired in a guitar hanger. Sturdy/strong, well-made, cushioned, easy to install. All wins in my book!
