EXCELLENT AND VERY THICK AND WARM SOCKS BUT...
These socks are Great!!!! great material, great size great construction, great thickness. These socks easily can get -35 degrees with no problem but... I found some "kind of problem" that someone could find as a bad socks or a bad material. Here is the pros and cons and some kind of solution. So you need to read this: I am not a sensitive skin person and actually I am a small feet size guy. I only wear 5 shoe size. I bought 2 pairs of this socks and I love them. As I said previously. I am not a sensitive skin person but for the thickness and the quality of the material, this socks need to be as they are, otherwise, they will not be as good as they are. They are great quality thick wool, the thickest wool I ever seen and felt, so for me when I first wearied I felt a little itchy on my skin but I had no problem to get along with that for a few minutes. I bought them for my fiancée because she lives overseas in a very cold southamerican country where the weather is very cold too and this stuff you cannot find over there, but I always, before sending her the stuff, I always try myself first (apparel normally), so I put this socks to sleep and as I said when I first put, I felt a bit itchy or like rough a little bit but after stay on bed for a moment, the itchy was gone and I start feeling my feet really warm and hotter than the rest of my body. In the evening I tried with my Bates military boots and they are great. Non slippery at all and really, really warm and breathable. My boots with regular cotton socks are a little bit bigger even I chosen the exact number for my feet size though but I have no problem, but with this socks they fit perfect. Same at the beginning you feel a bit itchy but after few minutes walking and using you don't feel anything. But this depends on how much sensitive you are with your skin and how much tolerant you are with thick wool. If you are going to use this socks for snow or just for long or very long periods of walking, in order to keep and maintain these socks in good shape and without being peeled specially the toe and the heel secction, I will recommend first you should take care of your feet. If you have long nails or hard or rough heel skin, Just wear a very thin cheap pair of socks under this one's so you are not going to tear them and they will last longer. The purpose of this socks is to keep your feet warm all the time but if you are not going to take care about your feet and nails and expecting the socks will be pretty much made of steel and last forever there is no material will do that specially if you get these ones wearing while walking long periods of time even with normal shoes. Recommend to wear cheap thin socks under these ones if you are skin sensitive or not tolerant to wool. If you suffer of cold feet or you have some kind of arthritis or any kind of cold feet or you need to keep your feet warm all the time or if you are elder and need warm feet... these socks are for you. If you follow my recommendations this socks will last forever pretty much. Whenever you need to wash, wash them turning them from inside out. Wash them by hand without rubbing them too much just a little bit if y ou really need to. Never bleach them and never use a washer machine. Do not use baking soda or oxygen cleaning powder directly neither in the water. Just your regular detergent or washing soap. Do not use softener. Leave the socks in the warm water with soap for 1 to 2 hours and hand wash them. Rinse properly making sure all the soap comes out. Never wring or drip, just with a lot of water take the excess of soap out. Never dry on dryer machine is not recommended or if you do. Do not use heat at all. Is better if you dry the socks in the shade over a towel. If you follow these caring. I am 100% positive this socks will lasts forever and you will never regret of your purchase, Hope this posting will help a lot of people to decide to buy these like me. Thanks for your time and for reading.

Miracle sock
Buy this pair of socks! I was hiking the Appalachian trail, foolishly borrowing a pair of boots from someone ( they were nice Asolos)as i had grown out of mine, and i found myself stuck with a pair of dryrotted boots. the soles fell off in the first half an hour of rough terrain. by the end of the first 8 miles, those boots were gone. I then proceeded to ducktape the plastic insert in place and walked on that. Eventually, those too fell apart. Finally, i just threw the boots in my pack and went barefoot hiking for the next 15 miles. i wore a liner sock and these El Pine socks. They held up great and are surprisingly durable. Im actually wearing them while typing this. They did acquire some mud but after one washing they look brand new with no signs of wear. I will say that they are somewhat itchy without a liner sock. My next trip, Isle Royale, i wore these again, with a pair of LaSportiva boots (purchased in brand new condition for 15 bucks at a thrift store), and these socks performed perfectly. These on top of a polypropelene sock is the way to go. Wicks sweat, feet stay relatively cool, feet are padded gorgeously, and no blisters over the course of a week long hiking trip. A+ product.

Some of the best socks ever.
I recently purchased my second pair to replace a pair that probably lasted at least 5 years. Initially, they are a little weird and take a bit of getting used to. After that, they are amazing. Reasonably well wicking in warm weather and warm in cold weather. Very comfortable once you get used to them - initially they might seem coarse and weird. They will shrink a bit on the first washing, but I've never had a problem after that. Currently thinking about getting a couple more pairs in different colors (and thought I'd pause to write this review) as I currently work in a factory - often in a freezer - and am on my feet in work boots for most of the day. Formerly auto manufacturing. They are great for such purposes and last like you wouldn't believe.

Warm, comfortable...
Definately Warm, comfortable...eh. Don't get me wrong, i obviously looked at other reviews before buying this product and knew what I would be purchasing. it fit as expected, i'm a 9.5 so i ordered a size large. what mainly interesting me in buying this product is that i need a thick sock for my boots. it is definately thick and warm as expected especially during the winter times. It's not tight, just right around the ankles and calves. i find it to be warm and durable as expected but not what it all seems when comfort comes around. it's not uncomfortable but you notice it once in a while walking or hiking...the itch. it is as expected the wool will keep your feet warm, it kept my feet warm but the slight itch keeps my review from being a 5 star. now would i recommend this to other people? Heck yeah, i would. the pros out way the cons and money will be spent well.

BEST OLD SCHOOL RAG WOOL SOCKS
Best features: Heavy rag wool cushions well, and the cuff part stays up with virtually no circumferential squeeze so they are comfy and don’t cut off circulation. Wear a pair in bed at night to keep your feet nice and warm. You will love these socks. MADE IN USA by Wigwam. Still made like they were in the 1970s. Excellent. Size: When in doubt, go one size bigger with these. Because the knit is bulky, and they tend to shrink a bit. Also: You can McGuyver” a pair into sock slippers by using a half inch stencil brush to apply Permatex (blue) gasket compound gripper spots on the soles. Remember: When laundering, turn inside out to prevent pilling AND line dry to prevent shrinking. If you do shrink them, just rewash, then hand stretch the foot part, and line dry. I dry them by hanging em over a plastic hanger.

I think something has changed I have used this model for several years. This is the first pair that can make the skin raw. Light duty or as dry socks in camp at end of day seems okay.
