BAKUMA Nail puller Kajiya 280 (Japan Import)

I had some tools at home that could do the job. Then I saw my roofer use this tool. There is no comparison. This tool is so much better than my other options. I had to have it. It is a great size for 6d/8d nails. The reasons it is better are 1. The teeth are sharp, and will "eat" into plywood until you can "catch" the nail head. 2. The teeth are rounded, so the only portion you need to sink into plywood is around the nail head, and not the whole surface, if it was flat. 3. The metal is durable, so you don't need to "catch" the nail head with the back of the tool; just barely beyond the tip is sufficient. All these features make it a great tool.

3 things matter to me for a nail puller: Hard steel that won't deform, teeth that will get under the nail head without destroying the wood, and a size that fits well in my belt. This nail puller meets all 3. I was previously using a DeWalt, and the teeth were mangled and rounded off after a few days. I've used this one for a few weeks, and it still looks brand new. The teeth are still nice and sharp. They are also ground at a very nice angle that will easily get under a nail head without having to be embedded in the wood. And also it is the perfect size for me. Highly recommend.

Absolutely superb cat's paw. I literally never write reviews but the amount of times I've commented to others or thought to myself while using, "I love this thing,” is crazy. So much better than anything you can pickup locally or at box stores. I've used this thing daily from finer trim work to ripping sheathing and framing nails and it still looks great. The steel is hard and doesn't deform, superior Japanese quality.

This is an excellent tool. I purchased this one recently as a backup for one I purchased several years ago and which is remains a fully functional survivor of many projects and much abuse. The important areas, those which engage the head of a nail are shaped just right to fully engage the head of even submerged nails. Though a small tool it will even allow me to tackle larger nail to at least begin the extraction process though to fully remove a larger tool then needs to used to complete the job. Small enough to fit into tight places, tough and well made, and my constant companion in the 'destructive phase' of many projects this has proven an invaluable tool; and in many cases far better than reaching for the 'sawzall'!

For years I've used a little made in Japan 8" Stanley renovator's bar that I picked up somewhere along the line on clearance. It's been indispensable doing trim work, prepping for laminate flooring, all kinds of remodeling stuff. For bigger jobs I've had an older two-sided cat's paw that worked alright, but never great. It's one of those de facto construction tools, so I always figured it's the tool for the job. When the old cat's paw went missing, I bought a cheap similar one at Home Depot for a big demolition job I have at home where I'm trying to salvage as much good lumber as possible. Turns out, it's a really frustrating tool to use. It slips off, the jaws aren't ground well to sink into the wood, and it's prone to denting the work surface. I wondered if they made a big version of the renovators bar... the 280mm bar has decent leverage, but it isn't the best tool for 16d nails because the jaws can't quite get a bite. 3" Ring shanks, my new sworn enemy, are no match for this Bakuma bar. I've pulled hundred of them, and I have hundreds more to go. I tried a Chinese copy first, and snapped a jaw off on the curved side. It was nowhere near as nicely cast, and the steel was obviously not as well tempered. This is one of those buy the right tool and it'll last years if you don't lose it purchases, and it really didn't cost more.
