The story is classic, I remember reading it as a kid. My only qualm with it is that it's *too* classic, by which I mean it uses the word f*ggot to refer to sticks, and I just can't think of that word that way anymore. I wind up skipping past the word and just saying sticks. I keep debating returning it because I cringe when I picture her learning how to read and having to explain that her book has a word that was once innocent but is now concidered a slur. Just kind of distracts from the story.

First off: yes, this book set is fairly small. It is not, however, too small to read, or even to read comfortably, as long as you will not be trying to hold it up for a group of children to see as you go. (I purchased it as a baby-shower gift for first-time parents, so this should not be an issue.) The case holding the four books is pleasant to both the eye and the touch, and appears to be sturdy, as such things go. The books are easy to slide out and back in, and are just as pleasant. The understated colours suit the classic story, and the match the traditional illustrations within the pages. Aside from the fact that it is an original, authorised copy, I was surprised - and pleased - to see that as a secondary bonus, both the books and their case were made from recycled materials, renewable resources, and vegetable-based inks. The stories themselves are classic and, I'm certain, require no introduction nor qualifications. As it is a gift, I neither have, nor will have, any information about how they hold up over time, but they seem from basic handling and investigation as though they will do well.

Great little set of books that I have purchased for Christmas for all the toddlers in the family. A nice set that they will read over and over again. Fast shipping and a wonderful gift for any toddler or young child.

The Peter Rabbit Classic Gift Set is a perfect gift for youngsters. The size is just right and the illustrations are quality - better than the original! This was bought as a christening present for a one year old and I'm sure the books will give her much more pleasure than a silver napkin ring etc .....! The delivery from Amazon was quick and efficient too, arriving three days prior to the scheduled delivery date on the order.

These books turned out smaller than expected for the price paid. Be sure to look at the specs and not just description. Great quality, though!
