Best way to play the (canonical) MGS series
As of this writing (3/1/2016), I would say this is the optimal way to play almost all of the canonical Metal Gear Solid series. First of all, let's cover what is and isn't in this collection. What IS in this collection: MGS1 (this is download only, however, so make sure your PS3 is online - the package comes with a PSN code), MGS2 (based on MGS2 Substance), MGS3 (based on MGS3 Subsistence), MGS4, MGS: Peace Walker, the MSX versions of Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2. I also believe the motion comics for MGS1 and 2 are included. What is NOT included: Metal Gear Acid 1 and 2, Ghost Babel, Snake's Revenge, the NES versions of Metal Gear, Portable Ops and Portable Ops Plus, MGSV: Ground Zeroes and The Phantom Pain - aside from the last two games mentioned, these are non-canonical entries that don't matter much. As for the two MGSV titles, they simply weren't out yet at the time this was released. As you can see from the lists above, this collection is all about the canonical entries in the Metal Gear series, and for that purpose, I would say it serves very well as a fast track into the series. If you're new to MGS and own a PS3 (and honestly, even if you don't), this is a great starting point - for what is just a few bucks per game, you can check out almost the entire series in one go. If you're already familiar with the series, the convenience offered with this collection is staggering and well worth the money. As for the games themselves, I won't review them all individually here...but suffice to say they are all worthwhile games, and these are great, (almost) entirely faithful versions of these games. For those interested in what is actually in the physical box...there are two discs, one of which is the standard HD Collection disc that was released a few years ago, and the other is a Metal Gear Solid 4 disc - nothing is different about these discs except I think the MGS4 disc contains trophy support and all the patches without having to be downloaded. As previously stated, MGS1 is download only, included as a code inside the box - in my opinion, this is the only real flaw of the collection, seeing as it's possible for people to not be able to access the PSN servers to download the game for whatever reason, on top of the code being a one-time use (this is a problem for those buying preowned). This is an insane value, coming in with 7 excellent games in one package, and I can't recommend it enough.

An Essential Game Collection For PS3 Owners New Or Old To The Series. A PC Perspective Review.
The Metal Gear Solid Legacy Collection is the reason I got a PS3 this year in 2016 some 9+ years later after it's launch for $599 USD in 2006. With all the controversy surrounding Konami and Hideo Kojima in 2015 and with it being over 2 years into the 8th generation of consoles with PS4/XBO it looked like the perfect time to buy a PS3 specifically for MGS4. Nowadays more than ever a console is judged by the quality and quantity of it's exclusives. Thanks to the power of Steam, Windows and X-Input lists of exclusive games are becoming short. You'd be wise to get your games for PC for the sure versatility, longevity and customizability of the PC platform when available. Better resolutions, FPS, detail settings and an abundance of Windows installations around the world with strong backwards compatibility and future proofing. However, none of the included games in the Metal Gear Solid Legacy Collection are available for sale for PC in a way a modern consumer would want to buy them. This leaves you with emulation on PC or this MGS (PS3) collection. The Metal Gear Solid HD Collection (360) doesn't include the classic PS1 and older Metal Gear games. MGS4 is out of the question being on 360 because it's the biggest PS3 exclusive next to The Last Of Us unless you consider that The Last Of Us has been remastered for PS4; something a good PC version would be able to do with custom settings and mods. To be honest MG and MG2 are extremely outdated, yet don't you wanna see where the series originally came from and how it's evolved since 1987? The expanded PS3 collection has more games for a similar price as the 360 collection at the time of this review; PS3>360 in this case. Sony has the rights to more games than Microsoft is availble to put on 360. The main reason to get the MGS Legacy Collection for PS3 is Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots (2008). This game can't be emulated on PC unlike the rest of the games in the series as of 2016. MGS4 was a system seller in 2008 and is still a system seller in 2016. Someday MGS4 might have some sort of re-release with updated graphics and settings for a new decade and generation in the same way Capcom finally brought Resident Evil Remake and Resident Evil 0 back from 2002 into 2015-16 remastered for every viable platform except Wii U. For years RE Remake and 0 had been Nintendo Gamecube exclusives. Until Konami gets their act together and the exclusivity rights Sony has to MGS4 expire it ain't gonna happen. With the MGS Legacy Collection you get 8 games from the series that originally spanned 6 consoles and platforms. Metal Gear (NES), Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake (MSX2), Metal Gear Solid (PS1), Metal Gear Solid: VR Missions (PS1), Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons Of Liberty (PS2), Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater (PS2), Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns Of The Patriots (PS3) and Metal Gear Solid : Peace Walker (PSP). The main attractions are the numberd MGS series 1-4 + Peace Walker. I strongly recommend you play Peace Walker before you play Ground Zeroes and The Phantom Pain to be better up to date on Big Bosses story leading up to MGSV. I hope someday Hideo Kojima gets to add his final act to The Phantom Pain that he missed out on doing because Konami screwed up the project. That would be one hell of a director's cut.

Best buy for Metal Gear fans!
Metal Gear Solid is one of my favorite game series. I was so excited to get all the games (except the latest one) in one collection. The only games that it doesn't include is the two Portable Ops and the two Acid games. However, it includes all the games in the main series. Portable Ops does have a part in the main story line, but it is not necessary for understanding the whole picture. This collection includes Metal Gear Solid, and Metal Gear Solid VR Missions for download on the PlayStation store. Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, and Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker on one disc. This disc is the HD collection, and everything is crystal clear when playing. On the other disc it includes Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots. Snake Eater includes Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake on its menu. Even if you do not play these, on the menu of Metal Gear Solid 1 is an extras tab, including the plot of Metal Gear 1 and 2. I personally was not a big fan of these two, but they are still a crucial part to the history in the Metal Gear world. Metal Gear Solid and VR missions were in third person like all the other games, but they are more in an orbital camera view, so instead of being behind snake, the camera is above him. This will continue to be one of my favorite video games. The story line of Metal Gear Solid is full of action, emotion, and it reveals many secrets throughout the series. For a $30 game you get 8 games in one set. Update: In Metal Gear Solid 1, Campbell asks you to contact Meryl, and he says her codec code is on the back of the CD case. I searched frantically on the game for a CD, until looking it up on the internet. He means the games case, but because this is a download, you do not have the case. Her frequency is 140.15

Metal Gear Solid is Great Whether You're a Young Clone or a Gray Fox
Snake: Colonel, mission accomplished. The Metal Gear Solid: Legacy Collection is operational. All main missions are intact, stealth mechanics solid, and the story hits hard. Campbell: Snake? What about the artbook? Snake...Snake? SNAAAAKE!!

Great Games all in one Package!
If anyone is craving to play all of the Metal Gear Solid games then this compilation is the way to go. It includes all the major MGS games and even the old 1980's MSX games. Everything you could want to play of the Metal Gear series that involves Naked Snake (Big Boss) and Solid Snake is here. Two of the games (MGS 2 and MGS 3) are beautifully remastered with the stories and controls left unchanged. Another treat to this collection is the digital copy of the first Metal Gear Solid game that originally came out for the PS1. I never thought I'd have the opportunity to play the first game until I found this collection, which actually saved me money from trying to hunt down an original PS1 copy. I didn't get into the MGS series until the Phantom Pain was released, so I'm actually really late to the party. I was impressed with the game and it's story, even though I didn't understand much of the story. After beating the Phantom Pain I was so enthused by the Metal Gear Solid series that I went on a "hunt" to find and play all of the MGS games. Being an Xbox guy, the HD Collection of MGS on the Xbox 360 wasn't enough so I recently bought a PS3 so that I could have the opportunity to play Metal Gear Solid 4 and this collection was my chance! I now understand why Metal Gear Solid is so important to video game history. I can't believe I missed these games growing up!

What The La Li Lu Le Lo?
Metal Gear Solid is one of the few video game franchise to tell a deep story; feature well written characters; and even get emotional when needed. All of these games are great and have amazing gameplay, well, once you get used to the controls. The controls are really the only thing negative that can be said about these games. I expected Metal Gear Solid to have clunky controls, it is a PlayStation game from 1998, but I didn't expect Metal Gear Solid - Sons Of Liberty and Metal Gear Solid - Snake Eater to have such bad controls, those games are best played on the Xbox 360. Though if you played these on the original PlayStation 2, you probably won't have any trouble, and I've been told that I'm bit of a video game snob. Thankfully Metal Gear Solid - Peace Walker and Metal Gear Solid - Guns Of The Patriots seem to put those issues behind them and rock hard then you can imagine. The 8-bit games, Metal Gear and Metal Gear - Solid Snake are also pretty darn neat too. The musical piece Theme Of Tara will be stuck in your head for at least a week, and you will find yourself sneaking around your home and work place humming it to yourself. All in all, I'm happy with my purchase and would suggest you you but this boxset too if you're looking for a good espionage story or just a top tier stealth game.

I am new to Metal Gear Series although I played it when I was young but never finished since it was hard now that Metal Gear Solid V came I decided to pick up the Metal Gear Solid Legacy collection before going to Metal Gear Solid V.The package is as stated in the product descrption (got new), you will get on two Disk in the package, one is recognized by PS3 as Metal Gear Solid HD Collection and other is Metal Gear Solid 4 (i am not sure if it is Trophy Edition or not).MGS 1 + VR are downloadable content so you will have to make a US (or any country in region 1). Original Metal Gear 1 and 2 can be found in the main menu of MGS 3( I suggest for everyone to play them or at least watch on youtube , they are referenced in all the games i played until now). This is missing art book since it is not the first print. I choosed the prime trail and it came in two days as stated. I played all games in order of release(even non solid games ) and now I reached MGS 3 and by Far MGS 2 is the best. i may skip MGS 4 and played after MGS 5 since 4 is closure for the whole series. I suggest everyone to play in the order of release rather Chronological order Order of release : 1.Metal Gear (MSX) 2.Metal Gear 2 Solid Snake (MSX) 3.Metal Gear Solid 1( for PS1) 4.Metal Gear Solid 2(for PS2) 5.Metal Gear Solid 3(for PS2) 6.Metal Gear Solid 4(for PS3) 7.Metal Gear Solid PeaceWalker(PSP) Not included in the collection Metal Gear Solid Portable Ops (PSP) it came before PeaceWalker and it occure after MGS 3 there is an arugment whether it is canon to the series or not, not sure yet I will check it after I finish MGS 3 8.Metal Gear Solid Rising Revengeance 9.Metal Gear Solid V Ground Zeroes 10.Metal Gear Solid V Phantom Pain Chronological order 1.Metal Gear Solid 3 2.Metal Gear Solid PeaceWalker 3.Metal Gear Solid V Ground Zeroes --- not included since it came after this collection 4.Metal Gear Solid V Phantom Pain --- not included since it came after this collection 5.Metal Gear 6.Metal Gear 2 7.Metal Gear Solid 8.Metal Gear Solid 2 9.Metal Geat Solid 4 10.Metal Gear Rising Revengeance- Not included although it came before the legacy collection it has different gameplay to rest of the series Note : I do not know what NEW Konami 20294 means but there no difference from the other in amazon
