The strainer it comes with makes it easy to re-use the oil without having old food bits in it. It's large size can accommodate sufficient amounts of oil for frying. It's also nice to have to discard oil quickly and conveniently without searching for somewhere to discard the oil. We used to use old cans, but it was always a mess, this is much better. The mesh strainers are really hard to clean with little bits getting stuck in them. They also break easily if you're too rough. This one is a lot better. The only downside is that it filters the oil a lot more slowly than the common mesh strainers.
