A new translation of the Tibetan master Longchenpaโs famous work that systematically presents the path of yogic conduct according to the Dzogchen tradition Finding Rest in Illusion is the third volume of the Trilogy of Rest, Longchenpaโs classic exposition of the Buddhist path. The purpose of these teachings is to introduce us to our most basic natureโthe clear and pristine awareness that is the nature of the mind. According to the traditional Tibetan Buddhist formula of view, meditation, and action, this volume follows Finding Rest in the Nature of the Mind , which establishes the view of the Buddhist path generally, and specifically that of the teachings of the Great Perfection, and Finding Rest in Meditation , which outlines the main points of meditation, namely, where one should meditate, what qualities a practitioner should possess and develop, and what should be practiced. The Padmakara Translation Group has provided us with a clear and fluid new translation of the final volume of the trilogy, Finding Rest in Illusion , along with its autocommentary, The Chariot of Excellence , both intended to elucidate the appropriate action of a Buddhist practitioner. Finding Rest in Illusion describes in detail the conduct of those who have stabilized their recognition of the nature of the mind and how to apply the Buddhist view when relating to ordinary appearances. Drawing extensively from classic Buddhist works, the author uses well-known examples of illusion found throughout Mahฤyฤna literature to illustrate the illusory nature of both saแนsฤra and nirvฤแนa, thus revealing their ultimate nondual nature. This is an invaluable manual for any genuine student of Buddhism who wishes to truly find rest through the path of the Great Perfection. Review: certainly, one of the most if not the most helpful spiritual text Iโve ever read - Over the past 50 years, Iโve immersed myself in the great spiritual and philosophical texts of West and East. Longchenpaโs masterpiece finding rest in illusion is for me the pinnacle of them all. Review: This Final Installment of Longchenpaโs Dzogchen Classic does not Disappoint! - This superb conclusion to the Padmakara Translation Groupโs โTrilogy of Restโ series should be read with its two preceding companion books: โFinding Rest in the Nature of the Mindโ and โFinding Rest in Meditation.โ Excerpted from the Translatorโs Introduction: โFINDING REST IN ILLUSION and The Chariot of Excellence form the concluding part of Longchen Rabjamโs celebrated Trilogy of Rest. Their purpose, as the author himself declares, is to gather the entire teaching of Mahฤyฤna Buddhism into an essential point: the โyoga of the two aspects of illusionโ defined and illustrated in terms of eight well-known examples taken from the Prajรฑฤpฤramitฤ scriptures. The root text and its commentary are brief and pithy and their extraordinary profundity emerges only with slow, attentive, and repeated reading. They are replete with references to a wide range of scriptural sources, and the reader will soon discover that beneath their poetic surface lies an entire submerged continent of doctrine with which they may not be familiar. In the hope of being of some assistance, we have endeavoured to supply references to other texts where additional information may be found, notably Jigme Lingpaโs Treasury of Precious Qualities and its indispensable commentary by Kyabje Kangyur Rinpoche.โ
