Can it break the seal without damaging (denting) the lid?** A: This works somewhat ok with the regular mouth jar lids, still hard to do. But NOT at all with the wide mouth jar lids. What is needed for canning jars is called Pry-A-Lid which can be found on eBay - because they are no longer made it will set you back $20 + **Q: Does this also open the taller lids (over 1/2 inch, as well as under) , like the Brix Maxi?** A: There are 2 sizes, the other size opens less higher lids, it's the problem of the mouth opening, being able to catch the bottom of the lid, this one is for 15mm to 20mm high lids. You need 2 sizes. **Q: Would you say, if i bought the metal brix jarkey that i wouldn't need to buy the plastic one?** A: Having already owned a plastic brix jarkey, I purchased both the plastic and metal version, just in case I didn't like the metal version. I have had no problems using this key with any lids I have used it on. Unless you really pull up on the key like a puncture can opener you will have no problems. You just gently lift up until you hear the little hiss that the vacuum seal has been broken and the lids just twists off without any problems.
