THE CLASH – THE ONLY BAND THAT MATTERS THE LEGENDARY BROADCASTS DELUXE EDITION 4 CD SET The Clash were famed for their energy and angst. However, their music also embraced reggae, dub, funk, ska and rockabilly. Their heavily politicised lyrics, their relentless appetite for new musical genres and their rebellious edgy attitude had a far-reaching influence on popular music which earned The Clash widely acclaimed accolade “The Only Band That Matters”. This powerful four disc set features four legendary broadcasts from the halcyon years of the Clash which spanned 1977 to 1983 and culminated in the legendary US festival appearance. This deluxe limited edition includes a unique QR code which unlocks a free Digital Edition of Music Legends Magazine including links to a series of free companion video and audio podcasts to compliment and enhance your enjoyment of the music on the CD. Also included in Music Legends Magazine is the promo code which unlocks a 20% discount on all Coda Records CD and vinyl releases. Track information* DISC 1 - The Palladium, New York - 21st September 1979 DISC 2 - Capitol Theatre, Passaic NJ - 8th March 1980 DISC 3 - Nakano Sun Plaza, Tokyo - 28th January 1982 DISC 4 - The US Festival, San Bernandino - 28th May 1983 *Please see images for detailed track listing Review: Arrived on time and cds were in perfect condition - The parcel arrived quick and fast, in great condition and well packaged. I can’t wait to get listening to the great tunes. Review: A great collection from my favourite group - A great collection that captures the clash at various stages of their live career. I am biased as the clash are my favourite band. I saw them live and even though that was many years ago I can still remember the excitement, energy and sheer joy. They were great live and these cds bring that across. You can tell by the last cd that the clash were nearing the end. My only criticism is that there are no UK concerts and nothing from their early years as a raw punk band. Worth buying.

The only band that mattered 40 years ago!
This is a great package for any true Clash fan! I saw them 40 years ago playing pretty much the contents of disc 1 so I had to have this set and I was pleasantly surprised by the overall quality of the sound. Discs 1,2 and 4 very good considering their age and only disc 3 dips in sound quality but is still very listenable. As for the performances well this is The Clash tearing it up as only they could. Full of passion, fury and fire. Great set lists with a few rare songs thrown in ,'Julie's been working for the drug squad'!!! I've been playing it in the car all week and it sounds superb! If you loved The Clash, get it!!!!

One for the fans
Late 1970’s / early 80’s radio broadcasts aren’t comparable to today’s recording quality, but if can get over this then these give some flavour of why the Clash are so highly rated. Bonus online material evokes the excitement of those times. For £12 well worth it, if you can find something to play CD’s on…..

Good value four concert CDs
You can never tire of hearing clash songs, particularly different versions of the same songs. Really good value for a CD for each of four different concerts. The packaging is good too.

A rough and ready set of live recordings of the Clash at their peak.., warts and all.

Boom
Obviously not the greatest sound quality. That doesn't matter. The band are explosive on each cd. If you love the clash you would be advised to snap this up.

I honestly have no idea what people are complaining about with regard to the audio. The fact that there is any audio document to survive and preserve a live performance by The Clash is a feat in and of itself. These were not the days where everything was streamed and nothing happened unless it was uploaded to You Tube. For my generation, the Clash were our Rolling Stones (no Beatles or Elvis in 1977), and to have access to not only live performances, but historic occasions (I'm not sure if the Palladium show was where Paul smashed his bass (the date on the photo credit on the LP may be incorrect I was told by one who had been there). Like I said, news and happenings were not instaneous then. In fact, as an American Clash fan, you learned about them from underground sources, here in Boston it was BC College Radio's WZBC playing cuts from the UK first album Protex Blue and I'm So Bored, while WBCN would play Brand New Cadillac and Groovy Times. It was hard to get those import records in America, and we had to settle for the edited and re-ordered first album, London Calling came out maybe a month later than it did in the UK (I cut school that day to get the record), and chances to see your favorite band (whoever that favorite band was then, how many chances did Americans have to see the Buzzcocks in those early days, Bauhaus, Joy Division, etc?) and really, you had to be in the right place at the right time. That's what this collection is: an artifact of 4 musicians in their prime, at a time that was just right both in the UK and USA for many factors (political, economic, social, technology). These moments in time do not repeat themselves, and frankly, I don't see any contenders stepping up to the plate these days. Maybe it's not a pristine digitally clear highly nuances balanced low bass rumble to high hat whisper, but its well worth having. Complaining about the sound quality in this is like complaining that the picture in the Star Trek Original Series doesn't fit the wide screen tv format. This is a great document of time, place, ideology, and moment in rock history. Stop yer whinin'

Per un cofanetto cosi avrei pagato anche il triplo! Un amante dei Clash dovrebbe avercelo nella propria collezione. Meglio di un bootleg e meno di un cd ufficiale... #theonlybandthatmatters
