The 1 mile range is amazing, I just
I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE THIS REMOTE STARTER! It was a bit pricey to have it put on my car, but considering the fact that we have had a numerous amount of extremely cold days it was worth EVERY, SINGLE, PENNY. My coworkers were really jealous of me when I did not have to go far to have my car started, I do wish the range on it was a little better so I can start it from my station, but I work in a plant so you can’t have everything, but I went outside the door upstairs and I can start it from four flights up, again WORTH EVERY PENNY!!!♥️♥️♥️

Excellent alarm for the price. DIY beware.
The alarm is great. I installed it myself because I had a hard time finding a reputable dealer that wasn't going to charge me an arm and a leg. I've done a lot of car electronics and stereo installs before, but never a car alarm. This was my first time, but I spent many hours reading online in various forums to make sure I knew what I was getting myself into. I printed out 2 sets of wiring diagrams for my Tacoma and spent another 20 hours on the installation. I spent 2 hours just to match up the wiring codes from viper's manual to the diagrams I printed out. I took my time and went slowly, triple checking which wires I'm cutting and soldering most of the connections. I spent about an hour alone on building a plug and play harness for the ignition so I wouldn't have to cut into the factory ignition harness. 1-10 scale Difficulty 9: This is not for your average DIY. You must be able to read factory wiring schematics and figure out which wires you need to splice or cut. You must be comfortable with wiring for this as it requires you to install many modules if you want the full functionality of this remote start alarm. I installed the remote start plus 2 window modules to roll up/down my 4 windows and a bypass module. You should also be comfortable taking apart your interior panels and running wiring through your firewall to the battery. Another reviewer said they had a difficult time finding an installer because Viper is unique. It's not. It's part of the DEI family and is the premium brand of DEI (Directed). Other brands of DEI are Clifford, Autostart, Automate, Python, etc. Any competent shop will have a trained DEI installer since DEI brands are the most popular brands available to consumers. Best Buy installs Viper alarms along with many others. Warranty: It's in the fine print. If it's not purchased and installed by an authorized retailer, you get no warranty. The upside of buying from Amazon or best buy and doing it yourself is that you can return the unit if it's defective upon initial install. You also save a lot of money. I had 1 shop quote me $1200 labor to install it. Granted it was a high end shop, but even $400 is a lot of money you can save doing it yourself. My 5706V has been installed for 2 years and there has been 1 hiccup. When the remote runs out of battery, even if the LCD still displays something, the unit can get out of sync with the remote. Essentially, the remote doesn't send a powerful enough signal to the antenna and the unit gets confused. It will stop responding to any commands. The fix is to disconnect all the connections to the brain box and reconnect. I found this out the hard way. The troubleshooting guide doesn't Make sure your remote is charged regularly. My remote has had the same battery and with 2 years on it, I usually have it on the charger once a week now. It charges to full quickly still. The alarm will tell you when it sees a low charge on your remote by giving one extra beep when you disarm it. That's a good reminder to put the remote on a charger. As far as functionality, I love it. Windows roll up and down the way I want them to (modules sold separately), remote start works consistently, and the LCD lets me know if the truck is locked or not. Signal penetration is very good. I've been in a parking garage 2 floors of thick concrete above my truck and was still able to remote start it. I can be inside my school building and remote start before walking the 150ish yards to my truck. Conclusion: if you have any doubts, buy it from an authorized installer. If you are confident in yourself or your friends, DIY and save a ton of money.

Great product. Only problems are User/Installer caused.
Great product. Just as described. A lot of people on her that complain that they need an extra part for it to work should do research before they buy something. Some cars need bypass modules for the remote start to work. My advice, check if you also need to buy a bypass module before making the purchase. Most can be purchased for about 50 bucks. I also notice a lot of bad reviews stating that viper will not help them. It is a well known fact that your warranty is void if the system is not installed by a certified viper install technician. I installed mine myself with only one problem. The remote start wouldn't work after I hooked it up. But that was completely my fault. Did a little research and found out the the system is set in manual transmission mode out of the box. So I READ the EASY programming instructions that come with the system and switched it to automatic transmission mode within 2 minutes, and the car started right up. If you just follow the programming instructions, it is VERY VERY easy to program. Common sense really. I have had it installed in my 2002 Toyota Celica for a couple months now without any issues except that if I start the car with the remote start when my car is locked, the alarm will go off. But I just have to chenge some settings on the system to fix that. Just haven't had the time. P.S YOU DO NOT NEED THE BITWRITER SO PROGRAM THE SYSTEM. JUST FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTION. IF THERE BOT IN YOUR BOX, LOOK IT UP ON YAHOO/GOOGLE. The Internet is your friend. Use it. Thanks guys. All in all great product without any problems that are user/installer related. Have a good day.

I've owned every high end viper since about 1997.... They keep getting better but....
The Viper 5706V is DEI's latest flagship Viper unit. Overall I'm very pleased with the units. I've installed one in both my Wife's Venza, and my own Prius C. Pros of the new unit: The remote, despite DEI's own advertising info, has a new MICRO-USB (NOT MINI!) charging port The new remote seems more rugged, and is thinner, BUT wider than the old remotes Cons: I can't believe that its 2013 and we still only have the bitwriter as a programming option (hello USB to PC!) The antenna is VERY easy to break. I pre-ran my antenna wire to the mirror, and after the install using about 4" of slack I bent it to a 90 degree angle to install it on the back of the rear-view. However, once I did that the unit stopped working. After some troubleshooting I found that the harness backed out and bent many pins. I had to take the unit apart, and spend a lot of time with the tiniest tool I could find to carefully bend them back. Afterwards it worked ok - but then I settled for installing the antenna at a 45 degree angle instead of parallel with the mirror. I also fell like the antenna control center looks/feels cheap this time. The last few revisions weren't so bad but this latest just feels like one of the competitors cheap imitations. Charge the remote before install - both showed 2 or 3 bars, but after locking just once during testing they went into low battery mode. A full charge fixed them up, but on the first install I trusted the remote reading and had to wait for the battery to charge to to finish programming. I highly suggest a good hour+ on the bench removing the wires you won't use, combining the ones that need to be and grouping wires into bundles that are headed the same place. I like to cover the bundles in tape so that they look oem. If you can get a bypass unit that has D2D it will save you a ton of wiring, in both cases here I used Fortin modules as they support D2D. The Fortin module was the only that allowed takeover on my wife's push to start Venza, and the only module period for the Prius C so far. Overall pleased with the fit and finish of the product with exception of the antenna control unit. The range on these units is legendary and Viper/DEI makes the best security and remote start products on the market. With some more tweaks on the antenna unit to make it look and feel premium as well as a better/safer antenna connection this will easily continue their reign of domination in the security/RS space. *******UPDATE******** One Month in Battery life: I had to charge my remote (used the most) already, but to be fair, I only every charged it half way. I charged my wife's at the same time ot prevent her having any problems, based on using it several times a day every day it appears the batteries will last at least a month if not slightly longer. Not to shabby, charging 12x a year is doable. Remotes: Mine remote's "glass" seems to have slightly cracked at all edges, very faintly as if maybe when the plastic/glass was cut it wasn't done well. My wife's is fine. However, my wife's remote, the buttons on the side are almost impossible to press, they are recessed WAY more than the buttons on my remote, I didn't notice when I installed, but after she kept complaining about it, I compared to mine and what a difference. Overall - Still love the system, but between the remote minor annoyances and the antenna issue I experienced I would just end my review by saying that I hope that DEI steps up with QC a bit. I am ok with paying top dollar for great products that are built well, but after years of loyalty I have to say that all these minor quality issues have raised my eye enough to consider other manufacturers my next go round. *******UPDATE******** Two Years in Sold the first car with this system, battery and remote held up fine. The Venza which has had the remote with the hard to press buttons is acting up. I had to replace the battery (cheap and easy to do yourself! google/youtube has videos! and you can but the battery on Amazon!) But now randomly the key presses do nothing, then all of the sudden the remote will say "PAIR" on the screen and nothing works. I have to wait for the battery to drain completely, then recharge it and it's fine. I need to buy a replacement remote, but have been carrying the 1 way remote with me for when the LCD remote freaks out. First time in years I've had a DEI remote die this early into ownership. System continues to function fine otherwise.

Amazing System but be prepared....
Okay, I will start by saying that first I absolutely love all this system is capable of doing. It arrived intact and with no complaints and at the price there was no way I could complain considering I had seen it in store for as much as 699.00. That being said, after the mother of all adventures trying to find the right place to do the install and the price that was ultimately paid, I may have just gotten the unit from a mobile audio store at cost and had them install for free. Either way, it gets a little pricey so be warned. I paid 375.00 for the install and a bypass unit ( which you can guarantee youre going to need...these go from 45.00 to 85.00 depending what you get and may render your key fob useless if you don't get the right one so ask! ). My installer did an amazing job although he couldn't believe the price I paid for the unit until he took all the parts out and pointed out to me the antenna which was intact and new however a color indicator on it ( in this case a white dot ) showed that it was not the newest antenna module Viper offers and they themselves were having issues with it causing a lot of people's remote starts to fail. The correct and current color according to what I was told should be green. My system started just fine, car ran like a charm and as of this writing no issues so thumbs up on the unit but I would highly recommend you research your installer before you commit. I looked at Best Buy ( three different calls and the prices ranged from 325.00 to 450.00 for just the install since I hadn't bought the unit from them...apparently they didn't know too much themselves and I wasn't about to trust my car to them ) before I found the place who worked on my car. Overall, a great experience shopping and purchasing with the caveat that it should be noted a bypass module will ABSOLUTELY be needed on a car with a factory alarm.

Secure System
I only recently installed the Viper 5706V 2-Way Car Security, and it’s been fantastic. The remote start feature is great and I hope it'll work good in the winter. The security system is reliable and gives me peace of mind with its nice features. The 2-way remote provides clear feedback, so I always know if my car is secure. Installation took some time and might be tricky for beginners, but it’s worth it for the functionality it offers. Overall, this system is a great investment for added security and convenience.

Defective Item and no VIPER warranty
Viper does not come with a warranty if it is purchased through Amazon. I had this installed by Best Buy, and they are a Viper authorized seller/installer. First off, I had two issues after a couple of months purchasing and installing the Viper product. The first time I had to take it back to Best Buy it was a fuse that was preventing the vehicle to auto start. About 4 months down the road, the Viper module is having a power issue (Stated by Best Buy tech) and that is why the auto start isn't working. The Viper brain needs to be replaced. They recommended reaching out to Directed which is the parent company of Viper. They stated that since I purchased this item from Amazon which isn't a certified seller they cannot assist with any of the warranty options for my Viper 5706V. Directed (parent company of Viper) stated their warranties are only valid if they are purchased and installed from a certified seller/installer. It didn't matter that I could provide the serial number of the Viper product and that I had it installed by Best Buy (certified installer), they still wouldn't process an RMA. I STRONGLY SUGGEST to STAY AWAY from purchasing this item. The price is attractive, but if you add in the cost of installation ($200+) and the headache of back and forth with Best Buy to repair and not knowing that it doesn't ACTUALLY come with a warranty is just bad costly investment. $400+ down the drain.

Great System for Manual Transmissions!
This system is awesome! I have an old '99 Honda Civic, live in Minnesota and have to park outside. It has very good range and from inside our apartment with another building in the way I can start the car. Another reason I chose this specific system is that I have a Manual Transmission and this system has an MTS mode with a special "reservation mode" feature that ensures you can never start the car while in gear. It's also packed with tons of additional features, aux outputs and more (I can check the temperature of my car interior from the remote). I personally installed this myself. Viper generally intends for installation shops to put these in and their installation manuals (not included with this kit but available in .pdf form from various auto websites) are pretty helpful but aren't going to walk a beginner through everything if you've never done anything electrical related in a car. That being said, if you are a DIYer with some elbow grease you can probably do it, just make sure to do your research and have a plan ahead of time (car service manual/wiring diagram). Anyways, great kit and would definitely recommend it!
