It hooks up straight to your battery and mounts to you handlebars. **Q: I plugged it in. As soon as I turned my motorcycle on it popped. What did I do wrong? Is this normal? I've never had a problem with Charging Systems. Has anyone had this problem?** A: When you say you plugged it in, does this mean you wired it to the battery? Or did you plug the charging connector to the connector on your battery, or did you wire it and plug something into it? If 1. you wired it to the battery, you wired the positive connection to ground. As soon as you turned it on you completed the circuit and burned the smallest wire. 2. You plugged the charging connector to opposite connections and you got positive wired to ground. 3. The item you plugged into the unit has a direct short from positive to ground and you burned that item out. Follow the instructions very carefully. Connect the red lead to the positive + side of the battery. Connect the black lead to the negative - side of the battery. Replace the fuse that burned out, and plug the connector into the wiring harness. If you wired it correctly, it should have power all the time, whether or not the key is turned on. You turn the unit on and off via the switch installed in the unit. **Q: Is this waterproof? Has anyone gave it the weather test yet?** A: It has a cap that can help keep moisture out, however, when it is in use, it is completely exposed. I mounted mine on the handlebars behind my windshield.
