Perfect for Beginners and Pros.
I previously owned The Mixtrack Pro and I decided to upgrade to this. I'm not a professional DJ nor do I play at clubs. I mainly use this for small gigs, small house parties, and for mixes for a website that I own. I use this with my Macbook Pro and Traktor Pro 2 and it responds very well and it corresponds with the button layout just like it did with Virtual DJ. If you're a beginner, I'd recommend that you play around with Virtual DJ for the basics and use Traktor Pro 2 when you want to advance. Like most reviewers have mentioned, this mixer is great for beginners. It's easy to use and everything is there. Of course, you don't become a "pro" in an instant. You have to put in a lot of time to experiment and play around with the software. Just have fun with it. I also forgot to mention that the build quality is perfect even though it's plastic. People think plastic is cheap but this one doesn't feel cheap to me. Its sturdy and lightweight. I bought this in November of last year before Black Friday and I got it for $198. Keep on a look out for the price, but if you're looking for something to play with whether you're a beginner or pro, this is the one that you should get.

GREAT! But watch out...
PRO: Perfect for the price. Does the trick. Small and lightweight but feels strong. CON: Pay extra for "full" versions of software. Yes, the information is right here on the page: you get Serato Dj "Intro" and you can upgrade to Serato DJ Pro. Same for Virtual DJ. I guess I'm just not a fan of free, incomplete versions that need to be bought if you want the full experience. "But Keith, what do you expect, free stuff?" To which I say NO! Of course not. Serato DJ Pro is amazing and worth the price. The problem is, that price depends on what controller you buy. For example, a friend of mine has the Pioneer DDJ, and Serato Dj Pro was free, along with Serato Video. Sure, he paid two grand for it, but still. Another friend of mine has the Numark NV (about $700), which came with Serato DJ Pro but not Video. So you see, my beef is with the sliding scale of price. I feel like I was led to an inexpensive controller that suddenly became a $360 purchase instead of a $230 one. I am writing this to complain a little, but mostly to give a heads up if you are shopping and trying to decide on a controller. Be prepared to factor in extra money for the software that may initially appear free. That said, Serato Dj Intro is free and it's not bad at all, especially if you're a beginner. It does pretty much what actual turntables would do and sorts your music libraries just like Pro. It's just that, if you want to get into the more complex but extremely fun and useful aspects of Serato DJ, there's no question that you need Pro. I also hear that Serato Video is great, and that comes with the Pro purchase (for this controller at least). This review would be 5 stars if the sliding-scale pricing for the software wasn't such a bummer. If you believe my position to be invalid (hey who knows) then consider it 5 stars. Back to the thing itself: I love it. I unboxed it last night when I got home and it worked straight away. I read some complaints about plastic construction but it's solid; the wheels, faders and buttons are standard. Only the knobs feel a little cheap. This is going to be perfect for what I want to do: have the ability to set up the laptop and Mixtrack anywhere in the house to mess around, and maybe do a party here and there. I was a pro DJ in the 90s and still love to mix and record, and I find that this is a modest yet legit piece of equipment to do it with.

Amazing for a basic controller. Learn to scratch on it, you'll love it
This is a great way for a beginner to get their feet wet and start up in the DJing hobby but I think if you want to get more serious about it, you'd need a more advanced controller. I was just happy to see you can even scratch on this lil thing and it's really fun to use it recreationally, trying your hand at mixing stuff, using loops, some effects here and there, you know, the basics. You don't have a HUUUGE amount of options here but there are plenty of things one can learn through videos, that you can apply for use with this controller. The main thing any DJ hobbyist or even a more serious one, can learn, is beat matching, and for that, this console works just fine, as one would have expected. Numark is a pretty big player in the DJ controller market and I find their products more user friendly and less pompous than many of their competition's. I'd recommend this for any parent or self taught DJ hobbyist out there who wants to try their hand at the basics of DJing first, before getting a way more advanced and pricey controller.

Fantastic. A must buy for anyone who is passionate about music
This is a fantastic mixer and definitely gets 5 stars. I am currently running this mixer with my iPad. I had to buy a few extra accessories to accomplish this however. The lighting to USB cord as well as a powered USB hub because the iPad can't deliver enough current to run the mixer. I'm using the "DJ player" app by iMect Ltd. the app was $20 but it comes preloaded with the Midi map for this mixer so it was basic plug and play. Only downside is you have to experiment with each knob and fader to see what it controls in the app. This took me about 30 minutes to get a handle for the basic stuff yet I'm still discovering new things each time I play. The mixer is very sound the sliders work great. The rubber cue buttons aren't a squishy kind of rubber button like you would find on say an novation launch pad. The tops are a little firmer and almost a solid plastic. Using it with the iPad allows me the comfort of having all my music but until I upgrade my computer and install serato on it I can't fully uncap the potential of this mixer. Great product. This is my second numark mixer. (I have the numark mixdeck as well and it's still going strong.) highly recommended for beginner DJs and it's size makes it super easy to do small gigs and helps cut down on stuff I need to drag around with me.

Great Little Controller
I haven't had this controller for long, but so far it's been great. It's a simple little unit as far as DJ controllers go, but it's well thought-out and well built for the price. It has all the necessary elements for DJing with "classic" digital setups such as Traktor or Serato, but what made this controller appealing to me was that it also had 16 pads that made using it with Ableton Live possible. Pros: great unit for price, all the essentials, small & lightweight, great w/ Ableton Live/alternative DJ setups, great for beginners Cons: potentially shorter product lifespan (knobs/buttons seem somewhat fragile, but it has held up fine so far), only has essentials (no complex features)

Great for beginners!!!
I DJ local house parties on my college campus and I needed a controller that was affordable but still had a lot to offer. The Numark Mixtrack Pro II is a great entry level controller for people such as myself who love to DJ as a hobby. I recommend this product to anyone who is looking to explore the world of DJing. It has very simple controls that allow anyone to pick up the skills to become a DJ. The sliders and knobs are decent for the price but the jog wheels feel cheap to the touch and any moderately to advanced skilled DJ would find them awkward to use. I personally LOVE using the touch pads they feel like most pads found on the expensive controllers and I use them constantly. KEEP THIS IN MIND... when buying this product you will be given a free trial version of Serato which is a DJ software that allows you to control/mix/mash your music. Serato is great... but you wont get the full version which in my opinion is a MUST HAVE! without the full version of Serato you are greatly limited and can't use the Numark Mixtrack Pro II to its full potential. Once I eventually bought the full version of Serato I notice my performances at parties became significantly greater and I enjoyed using this controller a lot more. Overall this is a great beginning controller for people curious about the DJ world!

New Laptop Required
I ran this off of my Windows Vista tower to get used to it. I know I know why? I wanted to make sure that I could get used to it before I upgraded my machine. I bought a HP now and also run Stage Light to import sounds. Serato has been upgraded several times and keeps getting better. I am not a pro by any stretch of the imagination but with the new computer there is little amount of lag time. The downside to Serato is that Serato Video can only run on certain video cards and my fancy laptop is not one of them. Overall the Mixtrack Pro 2 is a great upgrade to the older versions. If you were thinking about learning this is a good place to start.

Disappointed. Intermittently unresponsive.
When it comes to DJ controllers, I am a novice. Before I purchased, I had read somewhere online that the Serato DJ Intro software recently added support for FLAC files. This is NOT the case. I'm not about to convert over 10,000 music files to an inferior format in order to use the controller. So I decided to try Virtual DJ. It DOES support FLAC. I like the layout and features of the controller, but several times over the period of couple hours, the controller became unresponsive and I had to use my keyboard and mouse. I had to disconnect the controller and plug it back in to restore functionality. Not sure if this was an issue with Virtual DJ or the controller. My computer surpasses all minimum requirements for the controller and the software. Something else I realized was that if I chose to play files from another music app in order to play a list of songs, I could not use any of the mixer features on the controller. So unless you want to be restricted by the software, you still need to have another mixer. I ended up returning the controller. I can't take away stars for my ignorance of what the controller can and can NOT do, but unresponsiveness in the middle of music play is cause for concern. Thanks to Amazon for the easy return process.

EINWANDFREI :)

Wonderful Product, but things you MUST know prior to purchase
I got this last week. I used to DJ years ago with 1210s and various mixers, including Numark, which is why the brand attracted me (they were always good quality products). I did a bit of research and watched videos on youtube (I would advise this to get a feel for this product) and decided this was the right product for me because: 1. I don't want to buy CDs, so digital is great for me 2. The other similar Numark release (with IPOD dock) is no use to me as you can't mix from your ipod 3. The functionality, reviews and price are all attractive IMHO. 4. Numark = great reputation and the Mixtrack 1 had a good name So the product arrived and I got a few tunes from an online store and got going. It really is great fun. The "synch" function does feel a bit like "cheating" for an old school vinyl DJ like me, but it is actually great as I haven't played for years and this means you can focus on the actual mixing. It isn't perfect anyway, so the DJ skill is still required. And you can do it all manually too. The product looks great and feels good. It is responsive and easy to use. It comes with a link to get Serato DJ Intro software, which is also quite easy to pick up. There is so much to do and learn, like how to use looping properly.....but that is all part pf the fun and not essential. I could give this nothing less than 5 stars as I love it HOWEVER, there are some very important things to note before you buy, some of which may seem obvious but please read on if you are considering this from a "newbie" perspective like I was. 1. You need a computer to work this. 2. Not all computers will work well with this. My desktop is fine, my laptpop suffers from USB dropouts (looks like a common problem) 3. You can't save loops you make on the fly to a button/key 4. The software has a few bugs, I struggle to close it down properly and I have read about a few more (though don't let this put you off as it is generally very solid) 5. The software has missing functionality that you can only get if you upgrade it at a pretty high price (~$200) 6. You cannot record your set with the default software unless you upgrade it (comment above) Enjoy (if you get one!)
