Face is pretty small...
Pros: Quality watch for sure. Perfect combo of analog and digital if that's what you're looking for. Band is solid and comfortable. Personal Cons: While the actual case diameter is over 47mm, it has such a small face that it has the impression/look on the wrist of more like a 37-40mm watch.. (Picture for reference, my wrist is 7.5" diameter) Watch is probably perfect for someone looking for the smaller statured on the wrist, rock solid build of this G-Shock, but it wasn't for me.

this watch is a new beginning for me.
I used to have a great watch collection that started when I was 12 years old. It began with a Casio G-Shock watch that my uncle bought for me as a present when I visited Thailand. He took me shopping in the market and we stopped in front of a watch store. I remember the hot, sticky musk of summer Bangkok weather, ushering us inside the store with its cool air conditioning and ethereal lighting. My uncle looked at me and said that I could pick any watch that I wanted and that he would pay for it as a present to remember my family in Thailand. My eyes wandered and became fixated on a very large, and bulky plastic watch. It looked like something very technical and indestructible, like I had never seen before. I hadn't ever seen anything like it back in America. It had fancy dials, a stop-watch, and a number of cool features and gadgets. It was a Casio G-Shock. Over the course of 14 years I had collected many other watches, which I had kept in a watch box. As I grew older and began to work, these watches became much more expensive and fancier. I had watches for specific purposes; ones that I used for working in clinic, watches I wore to social gatherings, during sports, during running -- and a watch that my friend Chris had bought me the day I was a best man at his wedding. I even splurged the day I got into medical school by buying myself a Citizen Eco-Drive watch, solar powered with an alligator skin strap, which soon became my most favorite and coveted timepiece. I kept all of these timepieces neatly stored away in my room, until they disappeared this past Tuesday. A indecent excuse for a human being broke into my apartment and stole a large number of things that I own, but most upsetting to me, he took my entire watch collection. He even went through all of my other belongings and took watches that weren't in the box. Watches that weren't even worth a penny on the street or any pawn shop, only had sentimental value to me. Initially I was upset about the most expensive timepieces that I had lost, this depressed me for several days. But I realized a couple days ago that those pieces will be replaced someday -- after all it is only money. What will NEVER be replaced is that Casio G-Shock watch that my uncle bought me 14 years ago. I easily recalled that feeling I had, walking slowly through the store in Bangkok, Thailand, staring at all of the shiny pieces in their display cases, and finding myself finally fixated on that Casio. It was only right to begin a new collection with such a wonderful, perfectly engineered instrument of time. To the team that has been designing and engineering the G-Shock brand of timepieces for almost 30 years, I want to say thank for the memories. And to the man who robbed my apartment this past Tuesday: I'm Buddhist and I truly believe in karma. The universe has a way of correcting wrongs against others.

Great watch for what it does, but description is very flawed.
I love my own Casio G-Shock watches, so when I was looking for a gift for my nephew's birthday, I looked at a lot of the different G-Shock watches here on Amazon.com for him. My nephew is in the Boy Scouts, and when I found this watch and read in the description that it has a compass, it made me decide to go ahead and order it, because I know he would love that feature, as well as the rugged good looks and durability of the watch. The description is/was as follows: "Round-face watch in resin with accurate digital compass around bezel, textured band with gunmetal-tone rivets, and logo emblem at twelve o'clock Mineral crystal dial window Features buckle closure, 100-hour chronograph, and compass with bearings based on 16 cardinal points measured in degrees Water resistant to 660 feet (200 M): suitable for recreational scuba diving" This is clearly a misrepresentation of what people will get when they purchase this watch. I would return this watch to Amazon and purchase one elsewhere, but his birthday is going to be celebrated this weekend, and time is running out. This is clearly an issue with Amazon's product description. With that said, the watch itself is representative of the high quality that I have come to expect from the Casio G-Shock line of timepieces. I am sure that it will make a fine gift for him and prove to be as rugged as my 12 year + Original G-Shock solar atomic watch that I wore at work and beat up pretty good, but it still functions perfectly. I had to rate the watch 5 stars based on the functions and durability it was designed for, and think it would be inappropriate to rate the product itself poorly because of an error in product description by Amazon. The watch is not what I was led to believe it was when I ordered it. Come on Amazon! Please address this inaccurate description and update it to provide factual details regarding its functionality. It is a fine watch, worth the price, but setting up expectations of certain features and then delivering a product that does not match the description is a disappointment and affects the trust of Amazon by its consumers. **Edit** 04/29/2015 To clarify, this watch DOES NOT have compass functionality, nor is it solar powered. It is a rugged G-Shock with analog and digital display with the usual stopwatch, dual time, alarm, etc., and the LCD display is "negative" - black background with silvery digits, which adds to its appeal in my case. Very nice watch, good price for what you get. The MSRP is $100.00, but I purchased it from Amazon for around $58.00.

Ups & Downs
This Analog/Digital Combination Watch is a Great Buy & there's more Ups than Downs if you ask me. 1st off its your Standard Watch Size & is not as Big as the Pics make it seem to be. The Style is Very Nice & has that Rugged Look & Feel to it. This Watch is made to withstand an Hard Active Lifestyle. Its Clear to see it can take some Abuse without being Harmed Thanks to the Materials. The Analog is Slightly Useless in the Dark seeing that you can only Truly Read the Hour & Minutes Hands. You would think the Numbers or Dotted Arrows for each Hour would Light up as well but they Don't Provide enough Light to Consider it as Help (In Complete Darkness). You Basically have to know your Timing based off of those 2 Hands only. The Saving Grace to Counteract this is the Digital System in the Watch. The Led provides the Light Source to Cover for its Flaw on the Analog. The Digital System also Comes with your Standard Feature Settings (Calendar, Time, Alarm, StopWatch & Dual Time). So its all sorts of Handy when you look at it. Also because of the Analog, Digital & Dual Time Feature you can now Keep the Time for 3 Different Events/Zones all at once. The only Flaw with the Digital is that from the 20Min Marker up to the 40Min Marker its Blocked when the Analog reaches around those Times (Its Not That Bad But Still). One More thing is the Setting Up of your Watch which can be a Pain the 1st time & if you have to Reset your Watch for what ever reason. The Buttons are a bit Hard to Push (One In Particular) & Holding them during the set up is not Nice lol. The Biggest Pain during set up is the Analog Clock which can Only Advance & can't Reverse. It Advances by 20sec per push or can be Held for a Auto Advancement but Don't go pass the time you want or you'll have to go pass all the Hours again just to reach back to where you belong. The Watch is Crafted to have a Great Appearance/Design but it has Ups & Downs. Yeah there's a few Problems due to the Design but the Mechanics/Materials of the Watch is Top Notch. Its of the High Quality you would expect from Casio with its Strong Build.

Superior watch, but not for everybody
This is an excellent watch, and I could not be happier with it. The G-shock series is used extensively by the military, special forces and police, and it's easy to see why. This watch is extremely well built and durable, and it uses only high quality materials (that goes for the band as well.) It's also very light and comfortable. The styling of the watch is not for everyone, however. This watch has a very tough, prepared-for-anything kind of look that I love, without being over the top. It is slightly thicker than other digital watches, owing to its armor-like exterior, but this is very subtle. Also, this watch does not have an overly large dial, as has become popular in watch styling lately. But I take issue with the many reviews that have described this watch as "small." These are clearly customers who were looking for the aforementioned large dial styling. I am 6'3'' with large wrists and hands, and I don't think the watch is undersized for me at all (nor does anyone else). At the end of the day, it's a very standard watch size. I have noticed that many reviewers are unhappy with the way in which you adjust the analog hands, which surprises me given how little time it takes. I had to adjust mine 11 hours right out of the box, and it took about a minute. I suppose if devoting a minute to setting your watch time is a major issue for you then you should look elsewhere, but if you're like me you won't even think twice about it. Finally, some reviewers have complained that the watch is useless at night unless you set the digital screen to report the time rather than the date. But this ignores the fact that there is a button on the side that cycles through the watch's various modes. One can easily use the digital screen to report the date and, when it grows dark, simply press this button. Then just hit the light button and you're in business. Easy as that.

Best value G-Shock available
All in all, this is the best G-Shock with analog and digital for under $70 (at the time of writing this). Addressing a concern that some men might have: I have pretty stubby wrists and the band was long enough for me. Of course, if you are a giant, you may need to look for something with a longer band, but I'm on the fourth hole with the band positioned above the thickest part of my wrist bone. This watch should fit most guys comfortably with extra holes to spare. Measure your wrist before ordering to ensure the right fit. Overall, the look and the feel of the watch are good. The display is plenty easy to see in regular lighting and the backlight is an easy button press when needed. It's easy to program and comes with instructions and a warranty card, which is also nice. It can display a 24-hour format, date w/day of the week, and it has the stopwatch feature, and the option to set an alarm. The materials are of good quality, and my first impression is that it's a well-made timepiece.

Basically basic
This was one of the first G-Shock watches I purchased. I have a 6 3/4" wrist, so I wanted a rugged, durable, and sensible watch that fit me. A lot of the newer G-Shock Classic watches, that I tried on at Macy's, were huge and they looked absolutely ridiculous on my smallish wrist like the Casio Men's GA110RG-1A G-Shock Black Watch , and the Casio G-Shock Quartz Men's Watch GA201-1A I'm happy to say that the G100-1BV watch fit me perfectly bet, even though I do like an analogue display, I think it's a little hard to read on this watch. I will agree with other reviewers when they point out that the digital display is completed obscured from view, twice a day, at 6:30 am / pm. The reverse digital display is also not easy to read without the illumination (which will kill the battery). The G100-1BV watch is light and comfortable. The buttons are all easy to use, but not so easy that you might accidentally press one of them. The included manual tells you how to adjust the watch's analogue and digital displays, set the date, set alarms, etc. Overall, compared to other watches in the G-Shock line up, this is very basic. This doesn't come with a ton of features, just the simple stuff. It is a good looking watch, it's all black, it's comfortable, it's lightweight, it's rugged, and it tells time. It is just what I thought I was looking for. Unfortunately, some day, the battery will die and that will be the end of this watch. I like the idea of the solar battery feature found on other G-Shock watches, as well as the ability of other G-Shock watches to sync with the atomic clock every night (but you have to put your watch in the window at night for this to take place with the 12 o'clock facing up). At $54, I think that the price is a little steep for the G100-1BV. If I had it to do over again, I might get the G9000-1V for $10 more. The G9000-1V also uses a battery that will die but, I think, it is a similar sized watch, offers more features, and it has an all digital display that is easier to read, plus, you get to have a MUDMAN! lol. I know I said I wanted an analogue display and that's what I got, but the digital display on some of the other G-Shock watches are easier to read than the analogue display of the G100-1BV, especially at night. I believe this watch is now discontinued because I cannot find it on Casio's gshock dot com web page so, you might want to take that into consideration if you decide to purchase this watch.

dont let the plastic fool you-this is the good stuff.
if you break this watch there is a good chance your wrist is in pain. i own lots of watches and i have many stainless dive watches that look tough and fancy. none can hold a candle to a g-shock. ever. that said, a huge production environment is bound to put out a couple mistakes. it happens. exchange it for a new one if possible. i own one of these watches. its not small but it doesnt look too bad on my little wrist. the light doesnt light up the dial-only the digital read out.that doesnt matter too much to me because the lume on the hands stays lit pretty well. the buttons are hard to push for a very good reason-you dont want them to get pushed unless you mean it. in an active environment , this is the way to be (for me at least). the hands stay where they are supposed to...there are some sport watches out there that are cheaply built and the hands will "slip" if the watch is knocked around (im looking at you pulsar) let me explain the title of this review here. some people my think that because this watch is made out of plastic that it is low quality. not true in this case. this is a tank of a watch. you could probably run it over with a bread truck and it would be ok (dont try that). i am a pipefitter and have had one of these for 2 years and it looks brand new and has never failed me. great price too! casio did not fool around when they built this. we asked for it-they built it. if you want a watch that will impress your friends at dinner this might not be it. if you want a well engineered, simple watch that will impress you....this is it. fresh battery every few years or so and youll be pleased as me. edit: i now have 2 of these. one is all black and factory and one is navy blue with a black bezel. i bought the blue one on x-bay and tore it down and refurbished it inside and out. i put a horrible picture of it here. its the one in the bush.
