I took some WD-40 and a paper towel and cleaned that out first (it was pretty dirty, it took a few passes), then sprayed the threads of the gooseneck before attaching it to the base. I had no problems attaching the gooseneck to the base, and no problems with attaching another microphone holder that I have to the top end. The threads are the standard microphone threading of 5/8 inch, 27 threads per inch. And yes, because there is no jam/lock nut included, your mic clip may end up in a wonky position or "unthread" itself if the positioning is not right. I don't have any spare lock nuts but intend to purchase a couple of them with another order from another site that sells them. Then I figure this little stand will be pretty much perfect for my needs, and at a very low price for the quality. Highly recommend! ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ It's a nice, compact *by M***T on January 11, 2017* These were the 2nd and 3rd times I've ordered this particular stand. It does the job. It's a nice, compact, but heavy base with a solid goose neck that won't budge unless you mean it to. It works great for us as additional stands for a podcast when we're recording on-location or with more guests than we have booms to support. The only downsides are that it's not real big- so you will need to move "to" the mic to speak, it's not stretching out away from the desk to reach you, and the mic clip is not detachable. That means you won't be able to put a shock mount on it, and it may be hard to use it for a large diaphragm type of condenser mic. it's really made for standard dynamic mics (think "Shure SM-58" size).
