Athena the Brain (Goddess Girls) Review: Great gift! - Bought this as a gift for my niece in third grade. It's a fun read and a great book for kids interested in mythology! Review: Perfect prequel to Lightning Thief - There is a lovely new series of books about the Greek goddesses as young girls entitled Goddess Girls. The first one is Athena the Brain and it is adorable. Athena is living on earth being raised by mortals until she is summoned to Mount Olympus by her dad, Zeus. It is time for her to attend the academy and so she bids her best friend farewell and heads off to Olympus. There she meets Persephone, Aphrodite and Artemis ( each will have their own book) as well as Zeus, Poseidon, Pandora and more. Filled with mythology and creative earthy inventions (Athena invents olives in a science fair) this book is perfect as a prequel to The Lightning Thief series and for younger kids. Adding this February 2011--this book is constantly checked out. I added additional copies of this and the other books in the series. The girls, mostly grades 2-5 love it and someone requests it everyday. Looking forward to ATHENA THE WISE coming out in April.

Cute story. My child was really interested in this series. She is in 4th grade and is able to read this on her own. There are a few words that she has to look up, but that is mainly due to the greek mythology background of the books, not due to a reading level issue. Enjoyable read.

Cute spin to what we know.
Athena's called to attend Mount Olympus Academy by Zeus, who she finds out is her dad! It dawns on her that it could be possible she's a goddess, she's always been smarter than her friends here on Earth... so the day arrives when she leaves her best friend (who she's been living with all her life since she had no clue who her parents were) and the flight to Mount Olympus is a bumpy one. Everyone's so... different there. She quickly makes friends with Aphrodite and her group of friends and quickly makes enemies with Medusa and her group of sisters. Then there's Poseidon, the cutest guy in school... who walks around with a trident and you could hear him from down the hall because of his squishy walking sound. If you're a fan of Greek Mythology like I am, this is worth the read. It's a cute story about all your favorite gods and goddesses and what might it be like if you stuck them in a school. I can already tell that the Goddess Girl series is going to be an enjoyable one!

LOVE THIS SERIES
This is a really, really great series. I am on book 4 and FINALLY got around to reviewing the first one. Athena is twelve years old (though Zeus thinks she's nine... well, I guess even the king of the gods isn't perfect) and is torn from her adopted family when Zeus-her own father-commands that she attend MOA (Mount Olypmus Academy) This book puts a modern twist on Greek mythology. Tweens like me (11) can relate to some of the more basic problems: bullies (Medusa, Ares), BFFs (Aphrodite, Artemis, and Persephone), school, and, of course, boys. Athena hates Poseidon... so why does he seem to like HER???!! Anyway, I TOTALLY recommend recommend this book to tween girls and hope this review helps :)

Amazing stories of mythology retold
I purchased this book for my 8 year old granddaughter, who is fascinated by greek mythology. This is the most amazing, funny interpretation I've had the pleasure of reading. We took turns reading the chapters and the story is endearingly retold.I would recommend this book, actually the entire series to any young readers out there. We absolutely love it and I've since purchased all three sets

Great Book
This is a great way to learn little facts about the goddesses and gods. This book is about Athena's experience about her first week of sckool at MOA. I think this book is a great way to kill time. It also can teach valuable lessons about don't stress to much.

Goddess Girls books
I bought this for my niece's daughter and she loved it so much that her mom is buying the whole series for her. I'd say it is a hit for smart young readers (girls) who want a challenge reading non main street stories. Based on Greek Mythology, it gives them an introduction to Greek literature.

This book is just amazing! The first in a series of goddess girls. Athena went from mortal to goddess to a goddess that invented an olive!

This book is REALLY good. I've read it about 5 or 6 times and it is still just as brilliant each time! The only bad thing is that it is a bit too short and it could go in a little more detail. but apart from that, it is an AMAZING book and I would defiantly recommend this to other people! 😊
