"... a heartwarming vindication of good-heartedness, something that doesnโt always get celebrated in a girlhood culture of snark" โ The New York Times Young Shiraz lives a lonely life with her stepmother and stepsister, completely unaware of the old woman who lives alone next door...until Shiraz's runaway yarn ball brings them face-to-face. This beautiful story from Tehran-born Israeli pop star Rita Jahanforuz explores the power of listening to others and the value of empathy.

A Must-Have in Everyone's Library!
This was given to us as a gift, and it has become our standard children's and baby's gift we give to everyone! Precisely the message the world needs: listening to people's hearts despite rough or unfriendly or unlovely exteriors. Beautiful story with lovely illustrations.

Wonderful story - beautiful images
My daughter and I thoroughly enjoyed this book. She read it first on her own and then I read it to her followed by other family members. It's a very heart-warming story and I like the connection to the Persian culture.

loved this fairytale
Shiraz lives in servitude, mistreated by her stepmother and stepsister. One day, she accidentally drops a ball of yarn into a neighborโs house. When she goes to retrieve it, she encounters an unkempt elderly woman who asks her to complete several unusual tasks. Shiraz performs each task with empathy and intuition, helping the woman with kindness and care. As a result, she leaves the house transformed, so beautiful that her stepmother and stepsister donโt recognize her at first. Eager to gain the same beauty for her own daughter, the stepmother sends Shirazโs stepsister to the womanโs house. However, the stepsister performs the tasks selfishly and poorly, leaving in a much less favorable state. This story delivers a powerful lesson about inner beauty and punishments and rewards, highlighting Shirazโs pure heart and good intentions. The lovely illustrations further drew me into the magical world of this beautifully written fairytale.

Lovely story based in Iran. Teaches children about being kind and good for its own sake. Teaches that beauty is inside out. Through the story these lessons become more accessible. Suitable for 5+

Lovely book
A beautifully illustrated book and a lovely story. I am looking forward to reading this with my little one. It's possibly a little too wordy for her right now but the illustrations are brightly coloured and very engaging for children of all ages.
