Precise and Handy Little Ruler
Precise and Handy Little Ruler This 6-inch stainless steel ruler has turned into one of those small tools I find myself reaching for constantly. The build is solidโmade from stainless steel with clear etched markings that donโt wear off with use. Both inch and metric measurements are easy to read, and the fine graduations make it great for quick, accurate work, especially when I donโt want to drag out a larger tape measure. Its slim and lightweight design means I can slip it into a shirt pocket or a small toolbox without even noticing itโs there. Iโve used it for everything from marking wood cuts to double-checking small hardware dimensions, and it hasnโt disappointed. The flexibility is just rightโnot flimsy, but it gives enough bend to measure against curved surfaces if needed. If I had to nitpick, the 6-inch length limits it to small-scale work, but thatโs exactly what itโs designed for. I wouldnโt expect it to replace a longer rule or tape measure, but for precision tasks and quick checks, itโs spot-on. Bottom line: A simple, reliable, and very useful pocket ruler that earns its keep in any toolbox, craft kit, or desk drawer.

Handy little ruler.
I do a lot of woodworking, and I use these as a quick way to measure gaps sometimes. I try to keep a few on hand because they always seem to disappear. These are the same quality that you would find on the shelf at any other store so no complaints here.

Set your fret height and forget it!
If you like having the ability to choose your own fret height then this is the tool for you! You can go with the manufacture specs and the factory is usually pretty good at setting the height correctly or if you want a different sound you can custom set your own pickup height. With that said though not all pickups are set exactly to their claimed factory specs as you'll find out. Usually pretty close in most instances but not exact. If you want to get that little bit of extra from your pickups without having to buy another set this might be just the ticket for you. At the very least you will find out if you have the best pickups for your taste and style for very little money. For the few dollars this costs I would call it an absolutely necessary tool to have in your guitar tool box.

Not made in USA if that matters to you, but overall good.
Simple, accurate, pocketable, small..perfect for what I need but definitely not made in USA like the picture shows. Bendability is nice, markings are clear. Slip resistance is pretty good.

Precise with good clear markings
I am a visual person. I see measurements online for a project and wonder exactly what that may look like. I keep this by my computer for that use. It's come in handy for decimal equivalents which is on the back. I think it would be great for those who actually needs the precise measurement while repairing or developing something.

Perfect small tool for guitar and bass set-up measurements (string heights, etc.)
Very small ruler with clear 32nds and 64ths markings, easily read from the squared-off end. Perfect for checking and adjusting the clearance heights of strings above frets when doing set-up work on electric guitars or electric basses. I am delighted that this GENERAL tool is available. They are so inexpensive that I intend to put one in each bass's case so it will be immediately available if I'm making adjustments away from my usual location. The text on a recent group is darker and less "precise' in its image than older rulers. Not a serious issue, it just feels more definitive to me to have crisp, narrow lines. When you're working within a 64th or so at the ruler's flat end and it isn't a perfect sight line to the ruler underneath a bass string, clarity is helpful.

QA Problem?
I loved my old American-made version of this ruler, so when I temporarily lost it, I was excited to see that I can get a replacement here. Unfortunately the replacement was made carelessly - it seems to have been stamped backwards - so that the measurements start on the curved end. This isn't nearly as useful as my old original ruler (which I have since recovered, with much relief). See attached image - top example is the poorly made version, bottom is the two-decade old original. I'm not sure if this is a regular problem with this item, vs just a one-time goof at the factory. Still giving it 3 stars because I loved my old one so much. I hope your new one is better.

A Quality General Product
I have used General Tools and Instruments for many years. Their steel rules are made in the USA and represent an excellent value. The six-inch pocket rule is excellent for technical work with both 1/32 and 1/64 inch graduations. The pocket clip doubles as a stop for depth measurements. Its small size makes it easy to carry in a pocket or store in a desk drawer or tool bag.
