Yes, it really does work; a very nice ice cream scoop
OK, so, right off the bat I need to say that, no, this ice cream scoop is not magic. It will not make scooping hard ice cream like putting a hot knife through butter. It is not DRAMATICALLY better than a scoop that has less heat conduction than the aluminum and refrigerant construction. I once read about an ice cream scoop that had an insulated handle with a hollow interior, into which you would pour boiling hot water, plug it up, then use right away on the ice cream. Now THAT scoop was probably very much like using a hot knife on butter (or on ice cream, anyway)! I don't know if it's still made or not, but I wouldn't be interested even if it was, as it would be too much trouble to have to charge the scoop with very hot (or near-boiling) water every time you wanted to use it. But, anyway, the point is that if you are expecting something like that, you will not find it here in this Zeroll Original Ice Cream scoop. However, that said, I have to tell you that after we got this scoop, my wife asked me if I had turned down the temperature of the freezer because she found it noticeably easier to scoop out ice cream! I had not, of course, altered any of the settings on our fridge (and we do keep the freezer quite cold--the hard ice cream is definitely HARD--hence the reason I bought this scoop). So, yes, this scoop really does work. It really does make a difference. It's just not a dramatic one. And, for it to work, you need to scoop out your ice cream a bit on the slow side. If you try to dig it out of there at top speed, you probably won't find this scoop to make much of a difference and will just be annoyed at not being able to run it through the dish washer. But if you take a reasonable amount of time, and let the heat transfer do its thing, you will find it to be noticeably easier to scoop out your hard ice cream from the container. And the same goes for getting a ball of ice cream to release from the scoop: it may take a few seconds to fall off--but fall off it will; you just need to have a little patience. Beyond the heat conductive design, the ergonomics of this scoop are really great. It's made just so. The handle is a lovely size and shape; the scoop is a lovely size and shape; it allows you to create near perfect balls of ice cream, if that is what you desire. The aluminum is nice and shiny, although it does scratch easily (being aluminum). Of course, by the same token, it will also polish back up easily if you need a mirror finish on all your kitchen utensiles. We keep ours sitting out in a utensile jar on the counter and it looks great. The only thing I will say on the "con" side of things is that I wish I had gotten the next larger size (the 16-green one) than the one I got (the 20-gold one), as a slightly larger ball would look better on top of a sugar cone. However, it's not a big deal and the 20-gold 2 ounce scoop makes a large enough ball to work just fine with the standard sugar cones.

Serious ice cream scooper
This is a serious ice cream scoop. It has no trouble with ice cream that is hard enough to bend spoons. The handle design lets you put all the force you need into the scoop without worrying about bending or breaking anything. It feels solid, simple, and extremely durable. There is no chance you are going to damage this no matter how hard the ice cream is. The only real downside is that it is not dish-washer safe because of the aluminum, but it is easy enough to hand-wash. If you deal with rock-hard ice cream, this is the right tool.

DO NOT PUT IN DISHWASHER
Yes, it's advertised all over to not put this in the dishwasher, but make sure you tell your kids too!! I love these ice cream scoops, it worked great until my son accidentally put it in the dishwasher. Needless to say, he knows now to not put the second one in the dishwasher! Great ice cream scoop. If you run it under a bit of warm/hot water it helps speed up the heat conductivity of your hand.

Makes a perfect round scoop with ease.
This was featured on David Muir, “Made in America” one evening. I bought 4 and gave 3 away. It feels nicely weighted in your hand and makes a really nice, round scoop of ice cream. The heat of your hand is transmitted through liquid in the handle of the scoop so the ice cream doesn’t stick. Everyone I gave it to has commented on how nice it is.

Beware: Metal Disintegrates on your Hands
After using this scoop (for not even a week), followed by hand washing (manufacturer's instructions) - the metal handle and scoop (coating?) is literally disintegrating. The scoop no longer has the smooth, shiny metal finish that it first arrived in - but is taking on a very rough, dull finish (now reminds me of one of my dad's 25+ year old construction tools). The last straw and most concerning was yesterday, after giving it one last try. As I washed it by hand, I noted that my hands were becoming coated in a dark silvery powder. For an item allegedly designed to serve food to humans - this is absolutely unacceptable and for these reasons, I am done....unsafe and reurning asap.

Nice ice cream scoop
It's a nice ice cream scoop. The scoop part is smaller than the one I used prior to this one and I liked the softer handle on my old one, but this one is still nice. Easy to clean. I don't put it in the dishwasher.

Perfect ice cream dispensing tool.
I saw this on the America's Test Kitchen TV show who's testers raved about it. Well since I purchased it I've used it extensively and I can testify to the fact it's the greatest ice cream scoop I've ever used. It's pricey but it's also solid and I'll probably lose it before I ever wear it out. It delivers perfect and consistent balls of ice cream every time.

This thing doesn't look special at all, but don't let that fool you. It works REALLY well and is built like a tank. I've tried scoops with triggers, they all suck (trigger breaks, handle bends, etc). This thing scoops and releases with ease, its like magic. Seriously, just buy the thing. Its the last scoop you ever need. Its perfect in every way except the no dishwasher thing, but that's a small price to pay.
