Review: Smashing Success - For my needs, this crushes the competition. To be clear, when deciding which can smasher to get, you really need to know what you want it to do. This crusher fits my requirements perfectly. What I needed was a can crusher that I didn't have to mount to the wall; the most important consideration. Next, I wanted to be able to clean it. This crusher accomplishes both needs. The hard resin body feels very sturdy and I don't worry that I need to mount it to any base. It is constructed nearly without any metal (notably two screws under the handle). I can put this in the dishwasher in the eventuality it becomes too difficult to clean by hand, but otherwise, a damp sponge or cloth has done the job. The cans fold flat lengthwise. So what if there is no crumple-down satisfaction--I'm not a child who looks for this to be a plaything. This is a tool to get a job done and it does the job exactly as expected. I really don't think this is a good idea for wall mounting. It only works on 12 ounce cans. It makes lots of noise. It takes plenty of force to make the cans go flatter and flatter. But it is a time saver, a hand saver, a back saver, a food saver, and a space saver. It makes sense, IF it fits your needs. Review: Well-engineered and sturdy. - Very sturdy, well-engineered. Easy to use, and efficient. I'm not sure what the plastic is, since I can't find a recycling code on the unit, but it seems to be nylon or maybe a glass- or mineral-filled nylon, very strong. I've gone through hundreds of cans, and see no signs of wear. I can get cans flatter by stepping on them, but not by much, and it takes two or three motions to do it. This crusher does it in one. I've been using this freehand, not mounted to anything, and it does a great job with relatively little effort. You can crush cans that are taller than the standard 12-ounce, but you have to do it in stages. There is a local brewery that packages its products in tall 20-ounce cans. You just have to dent the center section and then re position the can to complete the crush. My only complaint is that the unit makes a squeaking noise when you are using it. I was able to alleviate this somewhat by applying a synthetic oil to the hinge points, but not eliminate it entirely. The manufacturer should consider lubing the hinges during production.

... that this work work at first but it is AWESOME. Any review that says this device slashes cans ...
I was sceptical that this work work at first but it is AWESOME. Any review that says this device slashes cans is using it wrong. I'll admit that it took about three tries to figure out the best way to use it but that's not due to the device... I was just a bit slow to grasp it at first. Once you get the hang of it it is very simple to use. I love that it's a stand-alone device and doesn't need to be mounted to the wall, which was the sole reason I chose this device over the many others available on Amazon. I'm so glad that I chose this device it works like a charm and I know it will last forever. It is very sturdy and well-made. Worth every penny. I added some industrial magnets that whole 15 pound weight and just attach this right to my refrigerator so it's out-of-the-way but available when I need it.

Excellent portable crusher
Works really well as a portable can crusher. I keep it in a desk drawer at my office, where I can't mount anything permanent. It crushes the cans very efficiently, leaves them nice and flat. It's a little noisy, of course, and somewhat awkward to load. It also takes a fair amount of pressure to fully crush the cans, due to the particular crushing method.

Buy this one first!
I do wish that the crusher accommodated larger cans, but, as we only drink the 12 oz sodas, this works great! I first purchased a less expensive, conventional model in metal. This is infinitely sturdier and easier to use. The only thing I can say bad about it is that it does require some effort to crush the can. This is true of all of the crushers, though. On this model, the plastic is thick and is easy to clean. We have had it a while now and I love it! It works on the counter or floor and was totally worth the extra money. Save yourself the hassle and just spend the money on this one.

It's OK
The bottom of the crusher is too rough for my counter, I had to glue a rubber mat to the bottom to feel I could use it on the counter. I also wish it would crush the cans just a little smaller. It works well enough but just quits a little too soon.

Works great and then can be stored away!
I use it almost every day and bought it back in November, 2016. I highly recommend this product. I did not mount it. I store it in a shelf above my recycle bin in the kitchen. I take it out, crush the cans and put it back. I specifically wanted something to store away when not in use but still handy. It works perfectly on 12-ounce cans and for taller cans, I simply make a dent in the can before inserting. The cans are crushed with one push with no need to turn and crush again. .I've used the bigger wall mounted can crushers and find that I need no more force when using this one. It does not slide around the counter when use it either. Lots of pluses with this product!

High quality
Works like a charm. It's hard to find a can crusher that can be used on a countertop, so I was thrilled to finally find this one. It is easy to use and has held up to daily use quite well. The only downside is that there are no rubber feet on the bottom so it scratches the countertop since the bottom is all sharp plastic. There are four spots where standard sized rubber pieces will fit,and I was able to find some at the local hardware store. But, at this price, I sure didn't expect to have to go hunting around for parts after it scratched up the counter. Definitely an oversight by the manufacturer. Otherwise, good, solid, easy-to-use crusher.
