Build and create interactive, sensor-based robots using your LEGO MINDSTORMS EV3 kit About This Book Optimize the use of multiple sensors to build a robot that navigates and interacts with its environment Work with both the Home Edition and the Educational Edition of the LEGO EV3 Mindstorms kit A practical guide with step-by-step building instructions to help you create your very own robot Who This Book Is For This book is for the hobbyists, builders, and programmers who want to build and control their very own robots beyond the capabilities provided with the LEGO EV3 kit. You will need the LEGO MINDSTORMS EV3 kit for this book. The book is compatible with both the Home Edition and the Educational Edition of the kit. You should already have a rudimentary knowledge of general programming concepts and will need to have gone through the basic introductory material provided by the official LEGO EV3 tutorials. What You Will Learn Design a robot for optimum navigation and place sensors for optimal calibration Control multiple robots through a master robot Decipher the advanced programs developed by LEGO Account for weight and balance issues in your design Calibrate the sensors using buttons on the robot Utilize core programming concepts such as loops, case structures, calculations, variables, and arrays Enhance your programs with proportional and PID control In Detail The LEGO EV3 is a programmable LEGO brick that can control different motors and take input from buttons and numerous sensors, allowing you to build sophisticated robots from a simple children's system of modular bricks. You can build your very own robot using your EV3 kit, but there is a lack of good documentation in regards to the details of robot building! This book is a practical guide that will show you how to advance beyond the basic lessons included in your EV3 kit, combine core programming commands, and implement tested design principles when building your own robot. You will become familiar with resources beyond your EV3 kit and enhance your robot designs. Review: Lots of good information you won't find anywhere else - I've been doing Lego Robotics ever since the original RCX kit came out in 1998. They finally got the software right with the EV3 and the more you delve into it, the more you'll appreciate it. This book does an excellent job of exploring all the EV3 has to offer. Review: If you want to go past the EV3 as a toy, this is the book... - For anyone wishing to take the Mindstorm EV3 beyond the realm of a toy, this is an excellent book. Using the knowledge gained I was able to build a custom robot utilizing all the sensors.Highly recommended.

Looks like it will help a lot
Got sidetracked and haven't delved into the book far enough to review it honestly. It looks like it will take me that needed step forward from the EV3 robots into new territory.

STEM Teacher Recommends
Learning LEGO MINDSTORMS EV3 is very logical and informative. It starts out with the engineering process and how to document with EV3 software. The portion on gears provides both step-by-step building instructions and sample programming. Multiple methods of locomotion, input and output are well presented. It has an advanced sections, which include My Blocks, Switches, Loops, line following, and data logging. It also introduces LabView and RobotC. There are a many examples and graphics, so the information is easily understandable. The internet had bits and pieces that were difficult to find. This book has a lot of concepts in the same place with thorough explanations. I have coached F.I.R.S.T. LEGO League for four years. I wish I had access to a book like this when I first started and it is advanced enough that it can be used for multiple years!

I must say this is the best out of the group
This book at 280+ pages packs a lot of information about the Lego Mindstorms EV#3. I have a couple of other EV3 books, but I must say this is the best out of the group. I have learned about extra and free tools you can get to use with the Lego system. I keep going back to this book as a reference book also. It has a lot of nice code examples. Kids will understand the book as well :)
