I've since done some research and found that that almost no manufacturers put a flame retardant finish on kids clothes because the one they used to use was found to be carcinogenic. The safe options then are a fiber that is by its nature flame resistant (like polyester), or close fitting cotton. The close fit of the cotton doesn't give fire oxygen from between the fabric and skin. If you'd like to know more, there's an excellent article on the Washington Post website that lays out all the details.So, now that I'm better informed, I can in good conscience, rate these clothes on their own merit. They are well made and very soft. The colors are vibrant and will go well with an average boy's wardrobe.
