MSI GS65 Stealth THIN-068 15.6" 144Hz 7ms Ultra Thin 4.9mm Bezel Gaming Laptop 8th Gen Intel Core i7-8750H (6 cores) GTX 1070 8G, 32GB 1TB NVMe SSD Matte Black with Gold Diamond cut, Per Key RGB KB. Review: MI GS65 👍 - Very good gaming laptop - got this for my son and he is very happy with it . Review: The fans are garbarge - I have now ran into a fan issue thrice with this machine. The keyboard backlighting is also not working as expected for some keys! The support takes weeks in the best case. I thought MSI had a good reputation for hardware, but this machine has proven me wrong. I don't think I'll buy MSI ever again. :(

This machine is quite unbelievable for a laptop. The build quality if fantastic. The RGG keyboard is beautiful and feels fantastic. The trackpad is responsive and accurate, maybe the best I've ever used. The 1070+144hz display just kills every game I've thrown at it on Ultra settings. Desktop and work application performance is also fantastic. Everything is done NOW. My only cons are the power port location, right in the middle on the right bezzle, and the speakers leave a little to be desired for a laptop of this quality and cost. Overall, I'd still give it 10/10 though and recommend to anyone who wants a serious piece of hardware in their laptop bag.

I had been searching for a portable workhorse for sometime before the MSI P65 (1070 Mx-Q, 500gb) caught my eye. Know that I am a Zbrush sculpture, FX artist, and game developer. I love this machine! I haven't done a ton of gaming on it but it has rocked FFXIV and Black Desert like a champion for a couple hours at a time. Pros: - Sleek, professional, and beautiful design. - The multi monitor support works super well. - Thoughtful cooling design- this puppy can handle a LOT before it starts to get -too- hot (90'-100'C). The flipped motherboard was a great choice. - Dragon Center's "Cooler Boost" technology -nearly- eliminates the need for an external cooling fan (though if you care about your machine at all you will still get a cooling pad at least). - WORK. HORSE. This machine could handle 4k renders in Maya while editing texture maps in Photoshop. In fact, this machine eats Photoshop for breakfast and can run it behind virtually any other program- like Zbrush or Unreal for instance- without eating up too much processing power or RAM. (Naturally, you shouldn't leave RAM munching software running overnight or something. This machine likely wouldn't handle it well) . - Can handle a few-hour long Maya render. It cries a bit, but it can handle it. - The keys feel wonderful. The hotkeys on the keyboard are super helpful and function well. - The display is absolutely magnificent and MSI's "True Color" options really make a huge difference. It's like having a Mac's display without having to own a crummy Mac machine. - The mousepad functions are wonderful. (Such as scrolling, zooming, ect... Though I don't use it for working.) - Finger-Print sign-in works great. Cons: - The Speaker sound quality is REALLY bad. However the sound card when using headphones makes up for it. - The battery is nothing to write home about. You will get 2-3 hours of work in tops before needing to charge (maybe 5 if you're just writing or web browsing). - Adding an additional SSD is TERRIFYING. Not impossible, just nerve-wracking (due to the fact that you have to flip the motherboard over to install the SSD without tearing a ribbon or messing something up). If you have never built a computer or disassembled one before, I recommend just buying a version of this machine with a bigger HD or using an external. I added an additional 1TB Samsung Evo to mine. - The casing scratches easy on the outside- be wary. (I earned a couple of small scratches when adding the extra SSD). - Watch your background processes, such as Adobe CC or Autodesk manager. This is still a laptop, not a desktop- and too many background processes tend to heat this badboy up easily and unnecessarily. I recommend having such processes disabled when you aren't using them. Thoughts: A good portable work horse, just keep in mind that this thing is a laptop and not a desktop- and therefore cannot stay as cool while running several processes. If you need this computer to last you a few years then keep it cool! Buy a laptop cooler for it to sit on at least (I have been using this: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01NACVLWM/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1 for an extra cooler boost. It really works well). Good Luck, and Happy creating!

It's hard to imagine a better laptop. The size, weight, quietness, speed, battery life, everything is here. It's the laptop we've been dreaming about for a decade. You're not going to find this powerful of a GPU or CPU in a form factor this small anywhere else. The screen is huge compared to other laptops this size and weight, beautiful too. Great keyboard as well. The 8 hour battery life they advertise is a bit of a stretch. You'll get a solid 2 hours for sure at normal use, even running some 3D applications. With more of the power saving features on, you'll get significantly longer (though good luck seeing the screen at the dimmest setting). Even so, from my research it seems like that's a lot more than you're going to get out of any other laptop this size. I've been using it for gaming, general web stuff, and game development in Unreal Engine. Next time I edit video I'm going to use this, since the i7 will be better than the i5 in my desktop. It's aced everything I've thrown at it, with the exception of Unreal Engine feeling a little cramped on a 15 inch monitor. I made the mistake of only getting a 256 gig hard drive, and I almost filled it up immediately (Dang it Destiny 2, why you gotta be 60 gigs). It has a second M.2 hard drive slot, but to access it you have to disassemble literally everything (I had to laugh when the teardown video showed how to take out the wifi card in order to read the hard drive slot). A bummer, but make the right choice and get at least 512 gigs and you won't have to worry about it. The keyboard feels great, and SteelSeries has finally nailed the backlighting well enough that it's actually nice to look at (none of those stupid flashing rainbows). The sound is surprisingly good for such small speakers, though you'll still want a headset or some external ones for any serious listening. It's pretty close to perfect for what it is. You might be able to find a faster laptop that weighs twice as much, or a bigger screen that doesn't fit in your bag, or a touch screen on a Surface that can't run your games, but if you're looking for a beastly and portable laptop that last forever and doesn't burn your legs off despite having two jet engines for fans, this is purchase. I do wish it had a touch screen though. :) EDIT: Oh, two tips. When you get it, you have to plug it in before it will power up. Then reinstall windows via the recovery screen to get rid of norton and the rest of the bloat.

I’ve had the system for over a month now and it has been a great machine for my purposes. I’m a software developer first and foremost and occasionally play some Starcraft 2. This has been an excellent machine for me. I love the light weight and portability, the extra cores are nice for running visual studio, sql server, and IIS all at the same time with no degradation to performance. I’ve hooked a second monitor to it and it behaves beautifully. The Bluetooth connectivity is nice as well. The battery will last about 4 hours with light use, but let’s be honest. You’re not looking at a MSI laptop for battery life. I’ve had zero problems with this and it came exactly as advertised. The best is MSI is nice enough to leave a majority of the bloat-ware off the system unlike the other major pc brands. Would totally buy another MSI product again.
