Paul Simon is an American singer-songwriter and actor. Simon's musical career has spanned over 50 years. He first gained notoriety as the lead singer and guitarist of the folk rock duo Simon & Garfunkel, which was formed in 1964 with Art Garfunkel. Simon & Garfunkel released five studio albums, including the multi-platinum albums Parsley, Sage, Rosemary and Thyme (1966) and Bridge over Troubled Water (1970) before disbanding in 1970. Simon began his solo career in 1971, releasing his self-titled debut album Paul Simon, which reached No. 4 on the Billboard 200 chart. His second album, There Goes Rhymin' Simon (1973), peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 and included the hit single "Kodachrome".Simon's subsequent studio albums—Hearts and Bones (1983), Graceland (1986), The Rhythm of the Saints (1990), You're the One (2000), Surprise (2006), So Beautiful or So What (2011)—have all been met with critical acclaim and commercial success. In 1986, he was a member of USA for Africa, and he co-wrote "We Are the World", which became one of that project's biggest hits. In 1998, Simon wrote and starred in the film One Trick Pony. His other acting credits include cameo roles in The Graduate (1967), Catch-22 (1970), The Rutles 2: Can't Buy Me Lunch (2002) and An American Werewolf in Paris (1997). In 2001, he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a solo artist and as a member of Simon & Garfunkel. In 2006, he was selected as one of the "100 People Who Shaped the World" by Time magazine. In 2011, Rolling Stone ranked Simon at No. 3 on its list of "The 100 Greatest Guitarists". In 2015, he was named one of the 100 Greatest Songwriters by Rolling Stone.
