David Bowie was an English musician, who was considered to be one of the most influential musicians of the 20th century. He was known for his distinctive voice and his innovative and experimental approach to music. Bowie's career spanned more than four decades, during which he released 27 studio albums, nine live albums, and 72 singles. His best-known hits include "Space Oddity", "Changes", "Fame", "Let's Dance", and "Heroes". Bowie was born in Brixton, London, on 8 January 1947. His mother, Margaret Mary "Peggy" (née Burns), was a waitress, and his father, Haywood Stenton "John" Jones, was a promotions officer for the children's charity Barnardo's. Bowie's brother, Terry, born in 1945, is a musician and producer. Bowie attended Stockwell Infants School until he was six years old, when he moved with his family to Bromley. At the age of 13, Bowie formed his first band, The Konrads.
